Jake yawned and glanced outside of his window. He padded towards the door and slipped through the dog gate.
Charlotte, Duegless, and Sandy were playing outside in their yard and didn't look in his direction. His eyes rested longingly on the large city which was many miles away.
Jake nearly jumped when a cat landed beside him.
He turned and saw Coal.
"Coal! You.. scared me...." Jake stammered.
"I can see that," Coal laughed. His cheerful expression soon changed as he looked at the city.
"You're planning on leaving. Aren't you?"
Jake nodded.
"I really want to go there. It's so big! I want to see what it's like there."
Coal blinked at him. "I heard there are many dogs there."
"So?" Jake asked. "I'm a dog."
"Dangerous dogs, Jake. Other cats have told me they kill. They're fighter dogs apparently."
Jake looked back towards the city. "I'm sure those are just rumors."
"You should take your collar off," Coal advised. "My friend has been there. She said they don't like pet dogs. The ones she met, anyway."
"I guess so. If it makes you feel better," Jake grinned.
He tried to paw it up over his head but soon began to struggle. Coal began gnawing at the collar while Jake awkwardly sat there.
Once the collar was off he shook his neck.
"Should I say goodbye to the three?" Jake asked, uncertain.
Coal looked at him. "It's your choice. I personally would. If they knew where you were going they probably wouldn't want to leave the comfort of their homes."
"I suppose," Jake agreed.

He said goodbye to his friends, and left to go to the city.
Little did he know he'd never return to the human place again..
