"My curfew is 12, and it's 1 right now. My friends must have already left by now. We agreed to meet at the van two hours ago."
"Call your parents, I'll drive you home."
I quickly pulled out my phone to call my mother, the more lenient of the two, that's when I saw the one multitude of texts from both Matt and Ronnie. I'll call them later and explain. My mother picked up on the third ring.
"Hi mom, how's the big outing with dad?"
She replied in a dreamy voice, "Oh, honey we decided to go out to the Keys. I'm sorry we didn't let you know before. I hope you'll be alright on your own for the weekend. We should be home Sunday night."
I was beaming, "I'll be fine. Have fun!"
I went out to meet David and filled him in. He insisted I go home, it was starting to get late. I told him he wasn't driving, he had a bit too much alcohol to pass a breathalyzer test. He climbed into the passenger's seat then played a CD once we were on the road. We screamed the lyrics to "1985" and Bowling For Soup's cover of "Stacy's Mom." The drive was over too quickly. I parked his car in his driveway and we walked to my door.
"Do you want to come inside?" I offered.
"What the hell," he shrugged.
I unlocked the tall oak door and told him to sit on the couch, but he followed me into the kitchen. "I'm going to make us some coffee," I said. He stayed. The house was dead silent except for the sound of piping hot coffee dripping into the pot. I watched each drop fall, wishing everything could be as simple a process as that. I felt a warm body and arms wrap around my waist.
David's mouth was at my ear and whispered slowly, "I want you. You don't know how much I want to take you in my arms and kiss you, touch your skin, get lost in your eyes and drown in them. You make me feel like I don't need air, just you."
I began to laugh, "Have you been working on that all night?"
I could feel David's face form a smile, he answered, "Yeah, did it work?"
I turned around and held my face up to his, our lips met after being away from each other so long. His tongue tasted of the beer we drank earlier and his breath was warm. Our hands held each other's faces. He pulled away quickly and whispered, "Kate, you know you can't tell anyone, right? No one can know."
I answered, "No one's gonna find out David, it'll be our little secret."
He added, "Tell me when to stop."
His lips shifted from my ear to my neck. My fingers slid down to the hem of his shirt and wrapped around the bare skin underneath it as my heart beat at a mile a minute. His waist felt smooth and muscular like the body I found after peeling his shirt off. My fingers went about tracing each one, while my lips stayed kissing his. He followed suit and I suddenly felt ashamed of myself. Maybe everything wasn't how he expected. My wandering thoughts were quickly squashed like grapes as he called me gorgeous.
"You want to come upstairs?" I asked.
He answered with a nod.
I switched off the coffee maker, we didn't need it anymore.
He followed me up the stairs to my room and shut the door behind him. We sat on the bed.
"You're sure?" he asked.
I answered with a quiet "mm-hmm."
I started kissing him again and my heart began to beat even faster, I could feel his too, racing. He felt around my skirt, looking for a way to take it off. I chose to assist by unzipping it at the back and peeling it off. He did the same with his jeans. He pulled a condom out of his wallet. We then slipped under the comforter as I peered at the window, making sure we were out of sight as we made love in secret.
The sun woke me up in the morning. David was still fast asleep with a dreamy grin plastered on his face. I softly kissed his cheek and smiled. I dressed myself in my usual Sunday morning attire, an old t-shirt and some shorts. I folded David's clothes for him and placed mine in the hamper. The clock read 7:35 AM, too early to wake David.
As I read my copy of Lolita, I could see why he had told me we were wrong. This Humbert Humbert fellow was a real creep. He married a woman, Charlotte, to hook up with her 12 year old daughter, Dolores "Lolita." The difference between them and us was that David wasn't forcing himself on me like Humbert. He was sweet and understanding. I knew that he would have left had I said anything.
I looked over to him and stroked his cheek. He started to wake up. "Good morning," I said.
"Hey," He muttered softly as he sat up.
I let him know the time and reminded him that my parents wouldn't be home for hours. Most of the neighborhood wasn't up either, so he could easily jump the fence onto his side without anyone seeing him. He kissed me.
"Last night was...wow," he said as if in awe.
I giggled, "You teach college literature and the best you could conjure was 'wow?'"
"Amazing, spectacular, awesome, incredible, extraordinary, wondrous," he listed off synonyms in between kisses.
"I was that good, huh?"
"Yeah"
"Oh, I wasn't really feeling it," I said joking.
"Bullshit!"
"You were more perfect than words could describe," I answered truthfully. "Now go, before the neighbors catch you!"
He dressed quickly, then we descended the stairs. We kissed goodbye after which he left through the backdoor.
