It was black when I started to feel an odd, yet welcoming feeling. It felt like the sun was shining on me, and there was a gentle breeze. Wait. sun and wind? Wasn't I INSIDE a building when I blacked out? Then it hit me, and I opened up my eyes and shot straight up from where I was lying and found one of the most mesmerizing and beautiful things I've ever seen. My heart almost skipped a beat and it was beating a little faster now."I'm inside Minecraft!"
All around me was the standard Minecraft-textured world. There was a mixed forest biome behind me, a verdant grassland stood in front of me, all the green intermixed with the yellows and reds of dandelions and roses, and beyond that was an extreme hills biome. the tall mountains looked humongous compared to the nearby trees. There were subtle differences to this version of Minecraft though, compared to the one you could play on a computer. Like how the grass and leaves in trees swayed back and forth in the wind, and how the sun played a role in the shadows cast by the trees.
I couldn't help smiling at it all. It all looked so real. It felt so real.Just then I heard the crunching of grass behind me, coming from the forest.
Oh God, I thought. There's a creature behind me!
I spun around, ready to face whatever was there and it was...
MOOOOOOO!
... a cow.
Sighing, I let my guard down and relaxed. The cow continued to approach me, until it was right next to me. It then nuzzled me in the chest and mooed softly. I chuckled and patted the bovine on the head, and right then it looked up at me. but then it walked away deftly, as if I had never existed.Shaking my head and still smiling at the goofy cow I turned my attention elsewhere. I walked into the forest and looked around. I reached out and stroked an oak tree. I could feel it. It actually felt like I was touching bark on a real tree. Amazing, I thought. I should probably start getting ready for the night while I still can. I was about to start my preparation for the night when a blinding light appeared nearby, just outside of the treeline. shading my eyes from the harsh light, I waited to see what was up with the light. once the light subsided I looked back at the point of origin and saw something crazy.
There was a person lying there.
I began to approach the person who was lying there and I started to see better who it was. It was a girl. I instantly knew who she was as soon as I saw her maroon red hair.
It was my friend, London.
"London! You okay?" I asked surprised. No response.
I rushed over to her and knelt next to her, wanting to figure out what just happened. I shook her slightly on the shoulder and asked, "London, you okay? What happened?" Again, no response.
I was just about to shake her again when she shifted slightly and gently moaned. Then, her eyes opened up, and she looked around, slightly dazed. Her eyes widened slightly in surprise, likely at what just happened so I smiled and said, "Welcome to Minecraft, London."I stood up and extended my hand out to London, offering her a hand up. She took it and I pulled her upright. We then stood there, looking at each other and the surrounding area for a minute or so. I secretly marveled at how beautiful she was, even inside the game. Although we were square-ish, the game captured what we looked like very well. She looked so real. Her blue-green eyes were so... captivating. Her slender body. Her silky red hair. I just wanted to stare at her forever. But I often found it hard to not stare at her.
London broke the silence between us by saying, "I can't believe that we're actually INSIDE a game. This is crazy." She sounded winded as well as mesmerized. I replied with, "I can't believe it either so your not the only one." I tried to sound mesmerized, but that wasn't hard.
"And look at the details! Like, look at you, you look exactly like how you look in the real world." She continued.
"You look the same too. but you're probably better looking than me." I said , trying to tell her how amazing she is without blatantly saying something like 'I like you a lot' or something.
She blushed and said, "Thanks?" Well... I blew that one.
I shook my head and immediately changed the subject right after that by saying, "We should get ready for the night."
"Alright, so where do we start?" London asked.
"We should start by getting some wood." I said then moved next to a tree, said "Here, I'll show you," and began hitting it, and I saw cracks start to form on the oak block I was punching. After a dozen or so punches the block broke with a Snap! And then a little oak block item popped out of where the wood block had been resting. I scooped it up and looked at my hands. They didn't hurt or have bruises on them.
"It's OK. you try." I said to London.
"Ok." She said hesitantly. She walked up to the same tree I chopped a block out of... and just stood there. I could see uncertainty in her expression. "It's perfectly safe," I said, trying to ease her fear. "I did it and I'm OK. It won't hurt, I promise." She dropped her shoulders, sighed and said, "Fine."
She started beating the tree with her fists. A moment later the wood block snapped and another wood block item popped out of where the wood block was and she scooped it "It doesn't hurt!" She exclaimed, surprised.
"See? What did I tell you? By the way, congratulations on your getting wood. You're now on your way to being a good Minecrafter." I said.
"I don't see the point of all the praise. it was one piece of wood." She said flatly.
"But every good Minecrafter starts with getting wood, so you could become a great Minecrafter if you tried." I said, trying to make her feel happy.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." She said a bit more optimistically. Maybe... just maybe, we might just be able to pull this off and win this VR test.
Twenty minutes or so passed once everyone else - which was like 15 people - was inside Minecraft. They mostly just stood around looking dazed or talked with their friends. Then a regular user appeared into the world and called us all over. It was the guy from the lab. "Now that you are here, I wanted to let you know how to win the game. Although their is the way to leave the game by dying, there is another way. You have to go to the End and defeat the Ender Dragon and use the portal there to exit the game."
"Alright, let's go kill that dragon then." One of my classmates, Lily said. Lily was nice, but she didn't really have a big grasp of Minecraft.
"It's not that easy Lily. The End is one of the hardest places to get to in Minecraft." I said, finally being able to use my vast knowledge of Minecraft for something useful.
"That is correct." The guy said.
"Well, we're not getting to End and quicker by just standing around." I said after a minute of silence, from all of us.
"Correct again. Goodbye everyone, and good luck." The guy said and the despawned from the game.
"Well Jace, you're the expert here." One of my other friends, Dom said then asked, "Where do we start?"
I replied simply with, "We get ready for the night."
