Chapter 23 "Please Believe Me"

Have you ever wondered why we are here on this earth? Why we are put here, only to struggle just to stay alive? Why it feels like all we do is lose and that we can never win, no matter how hard we try? The recent events of my life had made me ponder these thoughts often, and I think that maybe, there was a reason for all of the suffering in the world.  How could you know beauty if you didn't know the darkness? How could you know love if you hadn't felt hate? How could you know that you were home if you hadn't been lost? I think that maybe, there really was a reason for everything that happened. And maybe, just maybe, the universe knew what she was doing all along and we could make beauty from the pain. 

I knew I had to find Taehyung.  I couldn't just give up on us and make everything I had done be for naught. I hadn't come this far just to give up now.   I had to rise up from the hell in which I was feeling, and claw my way out. I had to take fate into my own hands.  It was worth it.  He was worth it. 

I stood up from the spot in which I had been, and started to walk.  I didn't know where I was going, but I let my feet beneath me guide my steps.  Sometimes you just have to silence your mind in order to feel your heart. 

As I walked through those seemingly endless woods, a sense of calmness flooded over me. My fears and worries suddenly faded and I began to have hope again. 

The past few weeks had been a whirlwind of emotions, full of the highest highs and the lowest lows. I had been to hell itself but I rose above it.  I had loved and lost, and loved another even deeper. Despite everything, my life had become beautiful, meaningful and something worth living. 

Without realizing it, I had walked to the far end of the woods, and could see an opening amongst the trees ahead of me. I had never been to this place before but, it was...familiar.  A part of me knew where I was, but it was not the conscious part of me.

I couldn't help but enjoy the beauty before my eyes. Standing on top of the ridge of trees, I overlooked a large field full of tall prairie grass that blew in the gentle breeze like an ocean wave flowing onto the shore. And In the middle of the field stood a large and strong old oak tree with red falling leaves.  It was scene that one would think could only be found in movies. 

Flashes a smiling Taehyung suddenly ran through my mind. Love.  Happiness.  The tree........and that's when I knew where I was and why I had come to this place. 

"Please let him be here." I whispered out loud, praying as hard as I could as I climbed down the ledge and into the field.  "Please let me find him."

Running my fingers through the grass as I walked, I felt like I was defying time. 
Moving through that field felt like part of a dream.  A memory so close but still so distant.

My heart stopped for a moment as I saw the figure of a man in the distance, sitting next to the tree. It was him, Taehyung, he was here.  I had found him. 

I didn't know exactly what to say to him.  He had left, and I didn't know if he'd want to see me, but I didn't care.  I needed to see him.

As I approached him, he was just sitting there, staring at the old tree, clearly deep in thought as my presence went unnoticed. 

"Tae?"

"Taehyung?" I said as I gently placed my hand on his shoulder, trying to gain his attention, but the touch of my hand startled him.

"Ember?" He said as he turned his gaze towards me.  "What are you doing here?"

"I had to find you." I replied shyly.  "I...I know you left, and I'm sure that was for good reason, but I had to see you."
