Chapter 16 Despair

Jin's P.O.V

"He has Ember." I said as I slammed through the police station door. 

"Excuse me?" The receptionist replied. 

"Ember....someone took her.  I just got a phone call from her phone.  She's in danger, we need to find her!"

"Ok. I'll let Chief Tidewaller know." She said while writing something down on a piece of paper. 

"Why are you just sitting there? She needs help!" I said beginning to raise my voice. 

"Sir, we have to go about this in the proper way. I'll inform Chief Tidewaller when he returns to the station."

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I exclaimed.  "Someone is in need of help and you just sit there and give me some load of crap about how you'll get to it later? What if she doesn't have a later?"

"Sir, please calm down.  I'll call his radio if you'd like." She replied straight faced.

"Yeah, you call his radio and I'll actually go out and do something about it."

I stormed out of the station in rage.  Why wouldn't they do anything to find her? Was it because she was just there a few days prior being wrongfully accused of murder? Who have these towns people become that I used to consider family?

I got back in my car and revved the engine and sped away. 

"Where could she possibly be?" I thought to myself.

I could feel my heart begin to pound harder with every passing second, just hoping that it wasn't her last one. 

That's when it hit me like a ton of bricks.  I quickly turned the car around.  The sound of rubber tires squealing from the asphalt beneath them, driving as fast as I could.  Fifty miles per hour.....seventy miles per hour....ninety miles per hour....I didn't care about my life potentially being in danger, because I knew hers was and I couldn't waste any more time.

I reached my destination and shot out of the car, not even closing the door and I ran into the woods.

"Come out here you dirty dog!" I yelled as loud as my voice would let me. 

I could hear my voice echo through the the trees as the birds flew away from the sound. 

I continued to walk through the woods yelling out to the only person who could have ever taken the person who meant so much to me, The Jester. 

"You know, it's poor mannered to call someone a dog." His voice rang through the chill filled air. 

"Show yourself!" I yelled.

"Now why would I do that? You called me a dog.  I mean, you've never even seen me.  I like to think of myself as rather handsome." The Jester laughed. 

"I don't have time for your games.  What have you done with her?"

"Now I know I'm infamous for doing a lot of things, but I don't even know what you're talking about." The voice said.

"You know damn well what I'm talking about.   Where is Ember?!"

"Eamber?" He questioned.

"Yes, Ember.  Don't pretend like you don't know her."

"Where is she?" His voice becoming rather serious. 

"That's what I'm asking you! What did you do with her? I got the phone call, and I heard her screams." I yelled above my head to the still mysterious voice. 

"Well I don't have your precious little Ember.  Now go away and leave me alone. I haven't done anything.....and we want to keep it that way, don't we?"

"Help me find her!"

The only response was again the echo of my own voice. That echo sent fear through my soul.  I was alone and didn't know if the only person I ever loved was dead or alive. 

I fell to my knees and brought my hands to my face and ran them through my hair as I began to feel the rain droplets falling from the grey sky. 

"I will find you, Ember.  I promise.  Just hang on. Please.  I need you. I love you." I whispered.
