Chapter 6

When I turned the corner I saw Nath and Katie making out. That’s when everything started to crumble and fall. I felt weak and I wanted to run. Far away. Then they suddenly broke apart.

Nath: “Oh hey Kristi… What’s up?” He said with an awkward chuckle.

Me: “I’m really sorry. I didn’t think you two would uhh be here… I was just umm… Looking for the bathroom.”

Nath: “That’s err.. Okay. And the toilet is straight down to your right.”

Katie: “Wait up Kristi I’ll come with you!”

Me: “Okay.”

When Katie and I were walking to the bathroom, her personality went from warm and sweet to bitter and cold in an instant.

Katie: “Okay look. The only reason why I came with you on your little bathroom trip was because I wanted to let you know to stay away from Nath kay? I know you like him and I’ve seen the way you look at him. It’s like you’ve never seen a guy in your entire life so I’m telling you now. If you EVER think about going near him, I’ll find out and I will hunt you down and hurt you! You hear me?!?”

I stared at her in complete shock not knowing what to say to her. Was it really that obvious? She walked off and then I continued to the bathroom with tears in my eyes. I stayed by the bathrooms for about an hour and a half when I heard someone running. It was Max.

Max: “Kristi!!! Where the hell have you been?!? You had us worried sick!!! Are you alright?!?

Me: “Yeah I’m fine I got lost so I just decided to wait here until someone comes.” I lied.

Max: “Well alright. I’m glad you stayed here instead of trying to find your way back. We’re going home now.”

Me: “Okay.”

Max: “Are you sure you’re okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost or something..”

Me: “I’m fine Max. Don’t worry about it.” I smiled a fake smile.

I just couldn’t stop thinking about what Katie said to me at the park today. It kept on replaying in my mind and so did the scene of her and Nath kissing. I really didn’t think I would fall for him so fast! This really sucks… It was pretty late and ever since we got home, I’ve been in my room, sulking mostly. Then I heard a knock on the door. It was Nathan.

Nathan: “Hey are you really okay?”

Me: “Yes I’m really fine! Haha. Why is everyone asking me this today?” Was it me? Or did I feel the room boiling up? He walked closer towards me and I felt my heart start to race. Then he sat down next to me.

Nathan: “Because you don’t look like yourself. The lads and I have noticed that you’re looking quite bothered by something. It’s okay to tell me! You can always talk to me!” He said with a warming smile. I couldn’t take my eyes off of him! He had the most gorgeous eyes I had ever seen!

Me: “Honestly I’m fine! Nothing is bothering me. Thanks for your support though.”

Nathan: “Why am I not believing you? Seriously Kristi, I’m not leaving until you tell me what’s wrong!” He pouted.

Me: “Nathan please. There’s nothing wrong I promise! I’m just a little home sick that’s all.” I lied again.

He still had that “I still don’t believe you but I’ll respect you and leave” look on his face. I smiled at him. And he turned around before going out the door.

Nathan: “Just remember; if you have a problem just come talk to one of us! We’re pretty much family!”

Me: “Thanks Nath.” He walked out and closed the door. “We’re pretty much family!” replayed in my head. Yeah. That made me feel sooooo much better. I cried myself to sleep that night.

*1 month later*

Well it has been a month since I’ve been threatened by Nath’s girlfriend and hiding my feelings for him. Since then my feelings would keep getting stronger, but that would mean the pain would be a lot worse if I still saw him with her. I was in my room when I then heard the door slam. I knew that Max, Tom, Siva, and Jay all went clubbing with their girlfriends and Nathan went over to his girlfriend’s house not too long ago. Something was up. I heard someone run up the stairs and I was a bit nervous. What if it was an intruder?

Me: “Hello? Who’s there??”

When the person responded I knew who’s voice it was.

Nathan: “It’s just me Kristi.” He sounded broken.

Me: “Nath are you okay?” I said sounding a little worried

Nathan: “Yeah I’m fine. Just go back to whatever you were doing.” He then shut his door. A few minutes later I heard sniffling. The kind of sniffling when you’re crying. I knocked on the door and slowly entered. And there he was, sat on his bed with his eyes red and puffy. I ran over to him.

Me: “Nath! What’s the matter?!”

Nathan: “Nothing just go back to what you were doing.”

Me: “Please Nath tell me. You were there for me and now it’s time for me to be there for you! Please Nathan what happened?”

Nathan: “I don’t want to talk about it.”

Me: “Alright, but you know; I don’t think you’ll feel better without someone to talk to. I’ve got an idea. Even though it was a month ago, I’ll tell you what was really bothering me if you just tell me why you’re so upset?”

Nathan: “Okay fine. I was going to Katie’s and when I knocked on the door there was no answer. Then I remembered that she had given me a key to her house just in case if anything went wrong. I walked in and…”

He started to cry even harder

Me: “Then what Nath? It’s okay just let it out.”

Nathan: “I saw her all over some other dude!!! I stormed out of the room and she was chasing after me and begging for me to come back, telling me that she loves me and all of that other bullshit! So I told her it was over and that I never want to see her again…”

Me: “Oh my god… Nath I’m so sorry.” I hugged him tight, trying to make him feel better.

Nathan: “Now it’s your turn.”

Me: “What?”

Nathan: “You told me that if I told you what happened to me you would tell me what was really bothering you a month ago.”

Me: “Oh… Right… Well you see, this had something to do with Katie. Remember when we went to the park and I was looking for the bathroom and she wanted to come with me? Well she didn’t really come with me use the toilet, she came with me to threaten me.”

Nathan: “WHAT?! She threatened you?!?

Me: “Yeah. She thought that I was crushing on you so she told me to stay away from you, and that if I didn’t she would hunt me down and hurt me…” Tears were now forming in my eyes. Not only because of this threat, but because I had to lie again and say that she “thought” I was crushing on him when I really am!

Nathan: “Oh Kristi! I’m so very sorry!!! I really didn’t know she could be this cold until I saw her cheat. From now on, if anyone ever threatens you, just tell me. I would never let anyone hurt you.”

Now both of us were crying.

Me: “Thank you Nathan.” I whispered, and hugged him again. Hugging him made me feel safe, it made me feel like I was in heaven. Too bad I still couldn't tell him how I feel though...
