           MON PREMIER LIVRE

When I was just a little, bitty girl

In nineteen fifty-three,

A coronation book arrived by mail.

It was addressed to me.

I jumped for joy with a toss and a twirl.

I was happy as could be

To have such a picture book of my own

Was so special, do you see?

I studied it from cover to cover,

Preferred it to any other,

Was impressed with Queen Elizabeth's throne

And the palace that she called "home."

From that big, glossy picture book

I learned about the queen.

She was the prettiest woman

That I had ever seen.

She always rode in a stylish car

That was called a limousine

But never seemed to go very far

In those dark cars with the sheen.

The chauffeur never seemed to smile.

I thought he looked quite mean.

Perhaps they did not treat him well.

Was his pay cheque too lean?

Of course he dared not tell;

Who knows what's behind the scene?

The handsome butler's grin was wide

He, too, was tall and lean.

Behind her walked a real, tall man.

Prince Philip was his title.

When they both waved, they seemed to fan,

Resembling a recital.

They gazed into each others' eyes

And together they would smile.

The love they showed would win first prize;

Their romance was one of style.

To me those pictures gave so much pleasure,

Memories that I would always treasure

And now since sixty-four years have passed

And the pair have been destined to last,

From me they both deserve respect.

She's my queen; I'll honor her yet.

A/N I dedicate this romantic, narrative poem to all

happily married couples. I wish you longevity and everlasting

happiness in your marriages.  ~ Gail
