Discharged

I lie dead still in a vast, barren plain

My war-torn body encased in ash and hoar.

Stirred by a pale light, I turn to see

The hand of a loved one digging through the ice.

Safe and sound, free from padded walls.

Declared sound on paper,

But they knew that permafrost never melts.
