Harsh winds blew through the leafless forests, the clan cats were huddled in their nests, the queens all nursing their kits.
All except one.
A small brown tom shivered in the harsh cold, only two moons old, hungry and alone he struggled to wade through the ever-growing snow.
His owners who were two-legs had thrown him out, as nobody would adopt the accidental bundle that was born into their home.
He mewed as loud as his frozen weak body would let him, and then flopped into the snow, not strong enough to go on.
His mind was becoming dizzy, and his body numb, he would soon die.
A young silver she-cat bounded out of the snow, alerted by the last pleading mew. Her heart broke when she saw the helpless brown scrap.
She quickly picked him up, and darted to the neighbouring clan, whom she knew would have the proper materials to save and nurture the kit.
The silver she-cat got into the camp without much fuss, and ran to the nursery, a few of the warriors went to guard the nursery, but when they saw what was in her possession, they let her pass without question.
She went into the nursery. The kit in her mouth shivering, as he wasn't dead yet, but soon would be.
She looked at a calico she-cat, who was nursing one kit, identical to her.
Without saying a word the queen motioned towards her stomach, inviting the silver tabby to lay the kit next to hers.
She instantly started licking and nudging the brown kit towards her belly, he started suckling almost immediately. She purred softly as she looked at her new kit.
"Thank you." The silver tabby looked to the brown tom once more before racing out of the camp and back into her own territory.
No questions were asked, and none needed to be, a kit was saved because of a mothers love and kindness.
He grew into a strong brave warrior, alongside his sister, and he'd never know his true past, nobody would.
Not until they were born.
