To my mother

by Saige Ross on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 1:15pm ·

Remember that time, I told you I hate you?

The time I came home late and told you it was none of your business,

the time I wished you were dead,

The time I pretended you were?

I'm sorry.

You never knew what was going on in my head,

yet you still loved me to the best of your ability.

I'll never know how many tears you've shed over me

Or how many nights you sat up, staring at the phone

Wanting to call but afraid to bother.

I'll never know how many time's I've hurt you

or made you so mad you wanted to knock me back three decades,

But I will always know all the times you've loved me, because they'll never stop.

Now that I'm growing up, moved out, and starting my life on my own,

I realize how much you said was true.

Silly things like "Don't grow up to fast," or "When you know everything, teach me."

Don't seem so silly any more.

We can never go back to the way we were, I guess we both did some stupid things,

But today we can proudly say 'I love you"

And mean it with every fiber of our being.
