soon you will return home
and i'll shower you with love.

you should be pulling in the driveway
i can't wait to refresh my memory
of your face.

there must have been traffic
you will be home any moment.
you will be safe and sound.
you will return.

he's not coming.
he left me behind.

he walks through the door
fifteen minutes late
pulls me in his embrace
"i left work a little late"
and
you know
i don't even care.
i just feel relief
that he would even come home
to someone like me.
