I've been hearing symphonies
After all I heard is silence
A Rhapsody for you and me
And every melody is timeless.
- Symphony ( Clean Bandit)Shana's POV
My stomach keeps on annoying me as it continues it's elephantine grumbling. I can hardly breath but feel relieved as I figured out that I'm only few steps from the river.
This river used to be my swimming paradise since we lived in a mountainous area, unfortunately right now... I could only take a bath in the basement's cold shower.
Delighted that no DEF's had made their way here I started preparing my arrows. I starred at my reflection on the crystal like water. My messy hair was tied to a bun and my skin had become tan, I also notice how thin I've become. Guess I should let my self feast for dinner later.
Since this is a freshwater river, I wouldn't expect much. I was glad to have my arrows filled with cichlid fishes, I also got my self few tender crabs. I would kiss myself for learning some basic survival from movies. Ugh with my catch I'd be able to live for a week.
I was already on a reverie on how this mouth watering food would taste until I heard a distant sound of splashing water .
For my two years of experience in this devastated universe, I learned that DEF's can't swim or else that's what I observed.I was determined to ignore it not until the sound continue. My stupid curiosity bothers me and I found myself searching for the sound. I left my catch under a pile of green stones and I felt like I'm stupid for hiding it there since no one would really care about it.
I was certain that the sound was from splashing waters and as far as I can comprehend this is a flowing river and not falls, I traced the sound until it comes to a halt I searched the water with my eyes and there it is, at first I can't believe what I saw..it was a creature.. - a creature SAME as I am..It was a MAN?!.
My instincts drove me into the cold water as I save the man and manage to pull him out of his state. It was really a human specifically a MAN!.
I gasped for air and can loudly hear the beating of my heart .The man was still unconscious as I perform a cardiopulmonary resuscitation after a minute of trying to bring him back ,I heard him gasped for air and started choking but still his eyes were shut.
Relived that his still alive, I look around for any danger or any sign of DEF's .. but it's not the DEF's that should bother me right now but the sun nearly bidding us goodbye.I found myself dragging this man with my right hand and firmly holding chows with my left. It would be extremely dangerous to be outside especially when the sun sets, call it the hunting hour for DEF's. I feel my whole body wants to surrender as I'm on my way out of the woods .
Damn! This man was a drag!.
Few more steps as I reach the highway and thank goodness I still have a pinch of strength flowing from my body. I literally drag the body of this man not worrying if it's scuffed, right now I badly want to be home.
I cursed as I saw DEF's few meters from us, at least our path would be the other way around.
I feel calm as their distance was a bit far but they started to close gaps making me panic, their so moving closely- almost five steps.Call it adrenaline rush or what, I tossed the man behind my back and dashed my way to the basement. I was so scared and never dared to look behind, as far as I can recount that's a huge crowd of DEF's ,my weapon would be no match with them and my gun has only three bullets.
I'm outnumbered, tired , and carrying an extra baggage. Grateful that I can already discern MY home I doubled my speed and I can feel my feet being numb. I immediately grab the doorknob and throw myself inside.
glancing once again to my predators and saw that the crowd had turned out to be extremely vast throng.
By impulse I closed all the possible entrance and shove the man's body together with me to the dark basement.A loud thud echoed in the room due to the impact of falling bodies. I clenched in pain as my butt falls first to the hard floor. My self would be my less concern for now. The man was still breathing and I feel at ease. I drag him to the nearest sofa not minding his wet clothes. I left my weapons and stored my catch but spare few for my dinner. I'm changing into new clothes as my mind is already feasting for my delicious dinner until I feel a gun pointed to the back of my head.
Oh crap! I let my guard down.
