Rylee Summers
-------
The next morning, Vanessa and I got up to meet everyone for breakfast. After finding the bathrooms last night, Jace and I continued to talk for a while. When Vanessa and I walked into the canteen, I looked for him, but couldn't find him. So I sat down with oatmeal and strawberries next to Gabriella and started eating.
"So who was that hottie yesterday?" Gabriella grinned at me. Now I'm going to have to deal with her and Vanessa questioning me.
"That was Jace, now shut up." I was blushing and she was cackling. I had eaten most of my oatmeal and strawberries so I waited for everyone else to finish, while still looking for Jace.
Everyone finished eating and we headed outside to get our first activity. I finally found Jace outside and went to talk to him.
"Hello, love. Word is this activity is some type of sport, want to partner up?" Jace greeted me.
"Sure, we can be partners." I answered him. Justin came out and explained today's activity. Apparently, we are doing team soccer, which I am really excited for. Jace, Lukas, Ty and I ended up on the same team. We were playing against Derek's team. Vanessa and Gabriella were playing on a different team.
I went up with Ty for kickoff. It was a crappy ball but I can work with it. Ty passed the ball to me and I came face to face with Derek. He glared at me, probably thinking I couldn't beat him. So I proved him wrong. I dribbled toward him and did a rainbow over his head, then spun around him and gained control of the ball again. I beat the few people behind him easily and scored.
I turned around grinning but found three confused idiots and one pissed off guy. I stopped grinning and put my head down to start walking back to my half of the field. But guess who stopped me? Ding, ding! It was Derek.
"What the hell was that, Newbie?" Derek got in my face and yelled at me.
"Just a little something," I replied with a sudden boost of confidence. I don't know where it came from, but it scared me. In all my years of being bullied, I have never spoken back. I saw Jace walking towards us over Derek's shoulder.
"Don't you dare talk back to me. I will not be humiliated by a bitch like you. Never do that again, or you won't know what hit you." He yelled at me. I wasn't looking at him until I fell to the ground. He slapped me. I looked up shocked as he stalked away. I stood up, hearing Jace yell my name. That's when I felt the tears streaming down my face. That's when I ran away.
I don't know where I went, but it wasn't my cabin. I had been there for hours crying and thinking of how to avoid Derek. I decided to go back to my cabin since it was time for dinner and everyone would be at the canteen. It took a while, but I eventually found my way back to the cabin. Luckily, no one was there. Looking into the mirror, I saw a bruise on my cheek. I covered it with makeup the best I could. I decided I actually wanted to eat, so I headed to the canteen. I decided to take the side entrance so no one would see me. There wasn't much I wanted to eat, so I got a small salad. Finding an empty table, I sat down and a started picking at my salad. I wasn't paying attention to anything until a hand slammed down on the table next to me. Looking up, I saw Derek and fear instantly struck me.
"What do you want from me, Derek?" I asked him, sighing.
"Looks like your friends didn't come to see you after the game, did they? I guess they don't like you either." He laughed in my face.
"Why would you care? We aren't friends anyway." I fired back at him. He was pissing me off, and it didn't really matter to what happened to me at this point.
"Yeah we aren't, and I wouldn't want to be friends with a slut anyway." he snarled.
"I wouldn't want to be friends with a jackass anyway." I snapped back. Then he slapped me again. I sat there, my cheek stinging, shocked. Apparently it didn't matter, because he was right. My 'friends' didn't even bother to find me.
"Thanks for that Derek, I guess I'll have to get use to that, right? Goodnight, jackass." I stood up and walked away with tears streaming down my face. I walked through the main entrance, straight past my friends. Only one person saw me, and that was Lukas. He stood up and stared at me and everyone turned to me.
"Oh my god, Rylee!" Gaby stood up too and started walking towards me but I backed up. She looked confused. I don't know why, I mean she should know what happened.
"What great friends I have, right? I guess he was right, I am a bitch. No one cares." I said.
"What do you mean? Why are you saying all of this? We care about you, and you know that." She replied.
"Do you even know what happened? You know what happened before, but you don't care anymore do you?" I was yelling at her now, but I didn't care.
"Yes I know what happened, and we looked for you for hours. I have been worried all day and then you showed up mad at me."
"Well you need to open your eyes! It happened again! And you didn't see! It happened fifty feet away from you! And you didn't care enough to pay attention to your surroundings." My voice cracked at the end. I shook my head and started walking away again. Someone grabbed my hand and turned me around when we were out of the canteen. It was Lukas. I was really confused, I thought he hated me.
"What?" My voice cracked again.
"Did he hit you again?" Lukas sounded calm, but you could tell he was pissed.
"Why do you care? You hate me?"
"I don't hate you. Now, did he hit you again?"
"It doesn't matter. I deserved it." I answered him.
"We can talk about this later, right now, you need to talk to everyone and go to sleep." I agreed with him. He wraps his arm around my shoulder and starts walking toward my cabin with me. I notice everyone walking behind us and keep quiet.
We make it back to Vanessa and I's cabin and everyone piles in. I don't want to face anyone because I know I was wrong with everything I said. I know they care and I know the looked for me. I looked up and saw everyone. Vanessa, Gabriella, Ty, Lukas, and Jace. They all looked worried and I felt guilty. I decided they should see what happened, so I stood up and sat in front of the mirror where my makeup was. I poked my cheek and winced from the pain. My face looked horrible. I took a makeup wipe and wiped the makeup off. You could see one huge bruise on my cheek. I turned around and everyone gasped.
"This, ladies and gentlemen, is what two slaps gets you." I smiled weakly and started crying, again. I feel pathetic always crying like this. I need to get my shit together.
"What happened?" Gaby asked. I knew she was told I was slapped, but she didn't know why.
"I beat him when we were playing the games earlier. He got mad and called me a bitch and slapped me. Then I called him a jackass and he called me a slut and slapped me, again." I told them.
The boys looked pissed, and the girls hugged me.
"I'm sorry," I said, and everyone said it wasn't my fault. But I knew it was. Then we all heard clapping in the doorway and I froze.
It was him.
It was Derek.
