Told from Jesse's point of view.
The crowd goes silent. The only sounds I hear are the faint scuffling of feet, mine and hers, circling each other on the patch of dirt. There's a pool of water to my right - I could use that. The sun's behind her, so I'd have to maneuver around-
Shining gold strikes toward my face, and I just barely roll out from underneath it. Shouting, I lunge toward her, diamond sword extended. She leaps to the side, striking toward my side. "Ha-ha!" she shouts, scoring a hit. I wince and turn to face her, preparing myself for another strike.
Petra grins and waves to the crowd with her golden sword, eliciting a wave of cheers. The diamonds in her armor glint in the sunlight, giving all the appearance of an experienced champion with an eye for beauty. Not that she needs any more.
I shout and race toward her, touching her arm with my sword as I get to her left side. She turns to face me, and I can see her pupils narrow as she faces into the sunlight.
The screams of the crowd spurring me on, I barge into her and shove her into the pool of water. Before she has a chance to get back out, I raise my sword and point it at her neck.
"All right, Jesse, you win," Petra says, batting the sword away with her gauntlet. The crowd cheers as I help her back onto solid ground and she calls, "That's all for today!" The people gathered begin to depart, heading back to their homes and builds.
"I beat you again," I say, grinning, after only the stragglers are left. "You off your game today, Petra?"
"I'm never off my game," she says, lightly punching me in the side. After a pause, she continues, "But I needed that. Thanks, Jesse."
"Of course," I reply. "We're super-close friends, right?"
For a flicker of an instant, something passes over Petra's face. Something similar to sadness, maybe? She sighs and nods, the odd expression gone. "Super-close friends, tied by sharp edges."
The expression doesn't make much sense to me. Petra told me about a warrior city she'd visited a while back; maybe "tied by sharp edges" is a phrase from there. Sounds like it, anyway.
"You mentioned you were having an archery contest with Lukas tomorrow?" I ask, changing the topic. "You realize he's probably going to win."
She hms and shakes her head. "Anything's possible, Jesse. You should know that by now." Pulling her hair back, she continues, "But in the meantime, shall we practice?"
"Sounds good to me."

I feel like I'm writing more friendship-based oneshots than romantic-based oneshots. Hm.
BUT ANYWAY. The Big Three are complete! I'll be posting another chapter soon for people to say who they want oneshots of.
