The sound of bending metal and screeching tires was still heavy in Dipper's mind when he came to. He'd lost consciousness almost instantly when the glass had met his face and only the steady beeping nearby reassured him that he was in fact alive and in safe care.

Opening his eyes slowly, he was met with an unforgiving darkness that made his stomach drop and leave him hoping that it was night.

Reaching up, his hand brushed against material around his face to cover his eyes.

"Dipper! Your awake!" A familiar voice brought calmness into his already mildly panicked body.

"Mabel..? W-what happened? Why are we at the hospital? The last thing I remember is-" Dipper cut himself off as he turned his face to look over in the direction Mabel's voice had come from.

"Dipper..." Mabel spoke, her voice cracking as if she was on the verge of crying or already had a tear streaked face.

Dipper heaved a sigh and paused.

"Where's mom and dad?"  He asked softly, ignoring the strange feeling in his stomach.

Silence was the only thing that greeted his question and fear began crawling up his spine.

"Mabel?" He asked, his young voice cracking horribly.

"I-I'm here..." she spoke in choked words.

"Where's mom and dad?"

The moments grew to what felt like hours until finally he felt Mabel's arms wrap around his neck and pull him into a hug.

"Moms... moms gone." She said, her body shaking from the amount of negative emotion escaping her.

Dipper felt himself freeze up. His body suddenly felt disconnected and grief hit him like a freight train.

"W-what about dad?" He asked softly, his voice no longer feeling like his own.

"He's not a-awake yet..." she whispered, her voice now hoarse as if the words brought her more realization on the truth.

A heavy silence other that the heart monitor and Mabel's choked sobs took over the room and by the time Dipper was ready to say something, the door opened with a loud squeak and Mabel withdrew from him.

"Dipper Pines." A feminine voice called from the entryway. "I'm glad to see your awake."

The sound of the woman's footsteps came closer as she walked towards the bed he lay on and reached out with a cold hand to test the temperature of Dipper's forehead.

"There is something I need to inform you about." She said softly in a voice that brought fear right back to hold him in its grasp.

"Is seems you've hit your head and..." She paused for a moment before continuing. "The impact had caused severe damage to some of the nerves in you brain and I'm afraid to say but, the result of your trauma is blindness."

Dipper's breath hitched and he felt his fists clench tight. He won't be able to see? Mabel's face? Gone. Home? Gone. Reading? Gone. Writing? Drawing? Any plans all gone in so fast it nearly didn't process through his mind.

"I-I don't.. I can't." He spoke, His mind running to fast to process words.

"It's to early to tell if the damage is permanent or temporary but we will know soon." The her footsteps sounded again, this time leaving for the door, but they stoped before the loud door was pulled open. "It's a good sign that your awake." The with that, she pulled to door open and her footsteps faded away into the corridor.
