Chapter 1
London, England ~ October 22, 1885
It was a cloudy night. The fog was a thick blanket on the ground giving the coble stone street a cold, eerie feeling. He had gotten out of the carriage and turned back to help me down; like any gentleman would have done. We had just returned from a night in the town. William escorted me to the door.
As Gabriel arrived on the lower level of the house he greeted us properly. “Good evening Ms. Grey, Mr. Lightwood.” Bowing slightly as he addressed each of us. “I trust you had a pleasant night in the town?”
I acknowledged his question first, “We had a splendid time Gabriel, thank you.
He took our coats and hung them while I promptly led William to the parlor room and shut the door behind us. We talked for what seemed like hours about nothing and everything.
I sat in my favorite velvet chair and William, being the polite gentleman he is, sat across from me on the love seat. It got a bit cool in the parlor and William seemed to notice so he invited me to sit next to him and I happily obliged. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and I scooted impossibly closer to him.
We talked for a little longer when I let out a small yawn but quickly cover it up. That didn’t stop William from noticing though. He leaned down and his lips brushed against mine. He pulled back and leaned over to my ear and whispered in my ear.
“I love you Anne. Forever and Always.”
“I love you too Will.” I whispered back.
William them proceeded to get up and then help me off the sofa. He opened the door for me, I walked out into the hall and he immediately joined me. Gabriel followed a few paces behind us to the front door but remained quiet. He handed William his coat and he slipped it on, then he turned towards me. He grabbed my hand and brought it to his lips. I could feel the blood rush to my cheeks and I gave him a small smile. He returned it and went to exit the house.
“Have a nice evening Mr. Lightwood.” Gabriel called as he walked down the steps. Just before entering the awaiting carriage William said, “I will see you tomorrow evening, Ms. Grey.”
After I bid farewell to William and then goodnight to Gabriel, I retired to my suite. Immediately I went to the bathroom and say my maid drawing a bath. I dismissed her and looked in the mirror at my reflection. My crystal blue eyes stared up and down my small frame. I was short, 4’9” to be exact, and I was a twig. I saw my beach blonde hair that was half pinned up today. The half that wasn’t was left cascading down my shoulders in thick curls that stopped mid-back. The satin dress I had on this evening was my mothers. My dad had bought it for her when she turned twenty, my age. I missed them a lot.
They were both gone now though. My mom died last year of pneumonia and my dad died three years ago of bronchitis. My parents owned Grey Glass Manufacturing Company so they were wealthy and when they died; they left just about everything except the company to me. I was really close to my parents, especially my mom. We were with each other through everything in our lives big and small. Even though it was not custom for a child to be that close to their parent, I was. My mom was with me through all the hard times in my life along with the happy ones that involved William. I smiled at the thought of my Will and my mind went through the past 5 years with Will.
We have had an amazing 5 years together and even tough I lost both my parents he has always been there to support me and comfort me even when I didn't need it. And he hasn't stopped loving me through it all.
