dedicated to my cosuin-sister-bestfriend, anna. i've loved you since day one.
"Vi! Breakfast," my mom, Vera, called for me.
"I'm getting ready!" I yelled from across the house. Lola knocked on my door.
"Wanna skip?" She asked with a wild look on her face. "I need to talk with you."
"Sure, you taking me?" I asked.
Lola responded quickly with a nod.
"All right, I'll be ready in ten." I replied.
I got dressed in my white polo and black skirt. I slipped on some checkered vans. I did some quick foundation and mascara. I packed my 'backpack' with my MINI backpack which included money, headphones, and charger. I grabbed my phone, walking to the kitchen.
"What do you want to eat Violet?" My mom asked as I walked in the kitchen. I gave thought and said,"Rolls and bacon." Lola looked at me, holding up her bread and bacon. I laughed, sitting down.
"Thank you mommy, this was yummy." Lola said, while my mother thought she was such a doll. "Remember, I've got Vi today," she said making sure my mom doesn't pick me up.
"Thank you so much Lola. A real lifesaver," my mom replied very touched. "Bye Vi Vi."
"Bye mom." I said, slipping out the door after Lola. After getting into the car, I said, "I feel really bad for mom. She thinks she's raised angels. I really love her, and it makes me feel like we are terrible daughters."
"Don't sweat it. We will be thanking her big time!" She assured me, smiling. "Now, how about we go to the mall?" She asked.
"Sure. Let's go." I said, looking out the window into the house seeing my mom smiling. She's so pretty and she deserves so much better. First my dad, then my brother, now us. I really wish I didn't have so much guilt over it. I feel guilty for everything.
Apparently, Lola was watching me and that followed to, "Don't sweat it, Vio. She'll be fine."
"I know, but she's so innocent. She is so kind and.. And.. Amazing." I said. She knew I was having a moment and went silent. When we reached the mall, she took me inside to her favorite store ever, Xavier's. It was her favorite store because the manager would give illegal tattoos/piercings to minors. Jax, the manager, rolled out in his usual black hoodie and ripped up jeans.
"Hey Lola and Violet. What's for todays visit?" he asked, heightening his voice. Lola smiled at him for being so kind. FLIRTING if you ask me, "I'm standing right here! Do NOT bite your lip like that Lola." I said rolling my eyes. She blushed little, laughing. Jax 'knocked' my head over a bit, laughing.
"Well goodbye. We'll be back later, Jax." Lola said, smiling.
"Bye, girls." Jax said smiling.
We walked out, quietly. On the way out, I looked back and noticed Jax literally staring at Lola's ass. I almost barfed. He's nasty! While I threw up mentally, we walked to the food court.
"Jackson Vaeleris? Really?" I said with arched eyebrows.
"He's sweet! Let's sit down," she said gesturing to two chairs, away from the main lands. "Okay. Here I go. I'm... Well... I'm a witch." She revealed.
I laughed. "Can you preform voodoo if Jax breaks up with you?" I joked, not believing her.
"Violet, I'm serious." she said, grabbing onto my arm. I pulled away, in shock.
"What? A witch?" I asked with a blank voice.
"I'm Wiccan. I believe in Paganism. Not dark shit, but really cool things." she explained.
"Like what Are you in a weird witchcraft cult?" I zipped at her. She looked as if I had just offended her for not believing her.
"Well, no! No. Cults are groups that trade a sense of salvation and belonging for the ability to think for oneself. They indulge in extravagant homage or adoration, usually of an earthly leader of some sort. The Wiccan neo-pegan religion is nearly fifty years old. Our goddess who, well, is technically our Jesus is Gaea, which means Earth in Greek. We live peacefully and our Wiccan group are starting new things, like, well, I'll tell you later. But these things were actually written 400 years ago, although founded only 50 years ago. So, you knd of get the point ," she said, as if she'd think of me being like, 'Oh yeah cool, you're a living witch, this doesn't change much!' I'm not a kid anymore. I need to be treated like an adult. Or teenager anyways.
"For how long?" I asked in a small voice.
"Since I turned eleven. I guess I was an emo preteen," she said, laughing as if it was funny.
"Haha sure. Yeah. I was eight. You were my role model. But now, you're a witch! This changes everything! How, how, how!" I said, breaking down.
"Okay, calm down. I think Jax should come talk with you. He knows how to explain things more than I do," she said CALMLY.
"Don't do that! You can't be so calm about this! This is a live CHANGER!" I yelled. I started crying. I mean, yes an overreaction but still! My sister, a witch. What the hell. I thought she was an A+ student, good person, and beautiful. But she's a witch along with everything else. What other lies has she told me? What other shit has been going on? Does she do weird spiritual rituals in our backyard or woods? Does she do spells to get her way? What the fuck is she doing in her free time. "I mean, what do you do? Exactly. I don't want Jackson. I want the witch herself."
"Okay, Violet. I'm sorry, I was eleven, I didn't know. I saw a witch movie and wanted to be one! I told Jax and he said he'd be with me every step, and I stuck with it. I did not want to hide this from you. I had to tell you before you turned thirteen. I couldn't tell you before, I felt as if you weren't ready. And clearly you aren't. So you can forget this, hate me, not talk to me, or just listen." She replied.
I began to listen.
