My phone started vibrating so I figured it was a text from Gelo but it wasn't.... it was a text from his brother.
LaMelo: child your boyfriend done got himself arrested...
Armani: what?! how?
LaMelo: shop stealing and stealing errthang *Day Day voice*
Armani: LaMelo....quit playing on my phone.
LaMelo: nigga ain't nobody playing....he for real got arrested in China.
LaMelo: He's out now...... just thought you should know. But he has to stay in China. Call him if you want. It's just one in the morning here.
Armani: imma call him.
Before I could call Gelo, he called me. I pressed accept and placed the phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Mani....I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
"Promise to not be mad at me..."
"Gelo just tell me..."
He took a deep breath and the line was silent for a while
"LiAngelo..."
"I got arrested....but I didn't do anything. I promise..."
" I know....your brother just texted me and told me but I appreciate that you called to tell me. But tell me one thing.... how could you be so stupid ?! LiAngelo, you know better than that!"
"I know and I'm sorry baby girl..."
"It's alright. As long as your okay."
"I'm good. I just need new friends."
"That's good. And yeah, you do. How long are you stuck there for?"
"For a while... why? You tryna come see me?"
I could almost hear the smirk in his voice.
"Shut up ugly. You irritate me"
I let a faint smile play upon my lips as I grabbed my laptop and opened the browser.
"Awe baby girl, you miss me and that's okay. I'll have my dad fly you out to come see me.."
"Um....nope. You definitely don't have to do all of that. "
"Uh....yes. It's okay......because I miss you too. So....we're going to buy you a round trip ticket and you're gonna be here. I hope you have a passport."
"Do they even let black folk in China?"
"Haha very funny...."
"Whatever.....look, ill let you get to sleep, I know it's kinda late over there."
"Awe... I don't mind staying up all night to talk to you."
"Yeah well, I'm not gonna be the reason you sleep all day tomorrow... good night LiAngelo."
