Luna walked home, the cool summer breeze blowing her hair back behind her shoulders. She hated fighting with Alfie but, she didn't understand why no one would believe her. Luna put her head back and looked up at the sky, she was worried about going to this mansion, worried that something might happen to them or one of them might get hurt.
As Luna neared her house she saw her next door neighbor, Tommy taking out the trash. "Hey Tommy." She called. He turned and smiled at her, Luna would sometimes babysit Tommy while his parents were out on a date night. He was a sweet boy about ten years old with brown hair, and green eyes.
"Hey Luna! I was actually about to walk over, Mom wants to know if you could babysit Saturday?" Luna knew she couldn't tell him no, she loved babysitting Tommy. He was a big Sci-Fi nerd if she's ever seen one, and they would stay up late and watch movies on aliens or some kind of space monster.
"Sure I'd love to, it's a date." She replied with a laugh. Tommy gave a small laugh as well as Luna made her way to her front door. As soon as she stepped foot in her house she could smell her mom making dinner. She made her way to the kitchen and saw her dad trying to build a new shelf in the living room. "Hey dad, having fun?" Luna said and raised her eyebrow.
Luna's father looked to her with a playful roll of his eyes, "I am having a blast." He said sarcastically. Luna laughed and continued to the kitchen. Her little brother Mike was setting the kitchen table while her mother was at the stove making pasta.
"Hey mom, hey mike." She said as she entered. "Need help with anything?"
"Yeah that'd be great, if you want to help make the salad that would be a big help." Her mother replied. Luna moves to the sink to wash her hands then started on the salad. "Oh, Alfie called a little bit ago, said he wanted to talk to you. I told him you weren't home yet but to call back, he sounded upset is everything okay?"
"I don't want to talk to Alfie." Was Luna's reply as she kept her eyes fixed on the bowl of salad. Her mother glanced at her curious, there has never been a time when Luna and Alfie didn't want to talk.
"Did something happen?"Pressed her mother. Luna glared down at the bowl before her. She wished her mother would just leave the subject alone but, knowing her mother that was very unlikely.
"We had an argument okay, I just don't want to talk to him right now." With that Luna turned from the salad bowl and made her way to her room. Sure she hated fighting with Alfie but, she was still mad that he wouldn't believe her. He probably thought she was crazy ,and paranoid. Luna stepped into her bedroom and shut the door. She lost her appetite to eat, and she already ate some at the diner with her friends so she changed for bed, and sat atop her comforter.
She sat glaring at the wall wondering how she could get the others to believe her. She would find a way, she knew it was dangerous to go up to the mansion. Luna stood and pulled back her covers to slip into bed. As she moved to turn out her lamp she noticed the picture of her and Alfie on her bedside table. She smiled at the memory. They were ten at the time, their parents took them to the lake over summer break. The picture was taken after a water fight between the two, they were both soaked head to toe, and Alfie had this stupid look on his face making Luna laugh. She may have been mad at Alfie but, she knew they would make up, they couldn't stay mad at each other forever.
Luna sat the picture back on the table and turned out her light. She lay there in the dark staring at her ceiling thinking. She thought about going to the lake tomorrow. She hadn't been to the lake for what felt like forever, and she was excited to go back but, what worried her the most was thinking about going to the mansion. She had a feeling that they shouldn't go, that something bad was going to happen to them. Luna just hoped that she was wrong as she fell into a dreamless sleep.
