Shadow Breakers

Chapter 7

     The four teenagers finally got out of the maze. Irene and Maria scooted through the crowd looking for Lance and Joseph while Ace and Scott hold their hands following right behind them. There was no sign of their dates. Irene started to worry Maria, on the other hand, complained how they were taking their time to get here. They continued their conversation until both Irene and Maria felt a hand on their shoulder. Irene gasped and quickly hid behind Scott, while Maria jumped a little bit and Ace grabbed her arm pulling her behind him.

    "Who the hell are you?" grumbled Ace holding Maria's arm and Irene, again, grabbing tightly onto Scott's shirt.

     "No, the question is who the hell are you and why are you manhandling Maria?" asked the man. Instantly both girls recognized that voice; it was Joseph. Maria revealed herself from the Ace shield and Irene let go of Scott's shirt. "Irene what's going on?" asked Lance emerging from the crowd

     "Do you know these guys?" Scott questioned looking at Irene for confirmation. Irene nodded her head signaling that they knew them and went to introduce the two parties. After the introduction, Joseph asked what happened and Maria went to explain the situation. At the end of their tale their dates began to laugh making Maria, Irene, Scott, and Ace exhibit confusing faces. "What the hell is so funny about being kidnapped you asshole?" Maria screamed.

    "We totally got you," giggled Joseph trying to subside his laughter, Lance only continued to chuckle. The girls were still confused, but they were beginning to get pissed. Joseph looked at their faces and went explain more. "It was a prank. We paid those two guys to 'kidnapped' you two and hold you hostage until we came to pick you up, aka be your guys heroes, at midnight. I guess it didn't plan out to be exactly that but close enough"

    "Are you freaking mental, or something?" yelled Maria clenching her hand into a tight fist. She went to continued until Lance interrupted her.

    "This is just a little payback for leaving us at the door. We, mostly me because Joseph is too stupid to think of anything..." Lance was interrupted by a long 'hey' from Joseph, but he continued. "Devised a plan to get you so scared that you would never leave us again" ending his statement with a devilish smile. Scott, Ace, Irene, and Maria were beyond pissed because everything that happened to them was a stupid joke planned by these two idiots. Irene went forward and did something totally unexpected; she slapped Lance's face hard.

    Maria's gaped open staring in shock knowing that the Irene she knew would never revert to violence in any argument. This was a new side to Irene that Maria never saw, but she liked it. Lance touched his cheek feeling the stingy sensation and widen his eyes when he saw Irene spill loose tears. By now there was a crowd around them and the music was lowered, but still audible.

    "What is your problem?" mumbled Irene her hair covering her eyes while she stares at the floor. She slowly rose her head to expose her red teary eyes to the audience.

    "WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? PLAYING A PRANK IS SWITCHING MY TOOTHPASTE WITH SHAVING CREAM, NOT PAYING SOME GUYS TO 'KIDNAP' ME AND MARIA AND KEEP US CAPTIVE UNTIL MIDNIGHT!" Irene paused to collect her thoughts and composure, but it wasn't working, "I WAS SCARED, NO BEYOND SCARED I WAS TERRIFIED. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME. DID REALLY EXPECTED THOSE GUYS NOT TO DO ANYTHING DRASTIC TOWARDS US? BECAUSE IF YOU DID YOU ARE REALLY STUPID. THAT MAN LOOKED AT ME AS IF I WAS, AND I QUOTE, A BARBIE DOLL HE COULD 'PLAY' WITH. AND WHAT DID YOU DO WHEN I TOLD YOU THIS? YOU LAUGHED AT MY FACE AS IF MY MISERY BROUGHT YOU SOME KIND OF ENTERTAINING SHOW. THERE IS ONLY TWO GOOD THINGS THAT I GOT OUT OF THIS EXPERIENCE. ONE, I MET SCOTT AND TWO, I LEARNED THAT YOU ARE A BIG ASSHOLE BEFORE ANYTHING SERIOUS HAPPENED BETWEEN US!" Irene exclaimed finishing her rant. 

     Lance went to touch Irene's shoulder to comfort her but he swatted his hand away and gave her newest and deadliest glare. "Don't you ever touch me again." Irene said devilishly sending chills to everyone's spine in the room. "Maria were leaving," Irene turned around to find a shocked Maria.

    "Yeah we should go, but before we leave, Joseph" Maria said grabbing Joseph out of his state of shock, "If I ever see you or your dumbass friend again, I swear I will show you the path to hell so you can meet the devil himself." After stating her threat she sent a right hook into Joseph's face. Joseph dropped to the ground with his hand holding his bruised jaw. Maria wasn't finished there, she took it a step forward and kicked him in his manhood. Maria seemed satisfied with her work and turned to face her best friend. "Okay now we can go" Leaving Jospeh on the floor crying and a depressed and regretful Lance at the scene.
