Quick recap:
In that instant, I make a decision. The way I see it, there are three kinds of popular people: the ones who are popular because they're hot enough to melt the polar ice cap (as I like to put it, the peppy cows and the cocky goats) - but they're generally stupid players, the ones who are popular because daddy bought them all the right clothes and cars and whatnot, and the ones who are popular because they're generally nice and fun to be around so everybody likes them.
I'm going to be the third kind of popular. Not the second, and definitely not the first. I couldn't deal with being a peppy cow, though either way I'm going to be surrounded by them wherever I go in this school. I sigh to myself.
This is going to be a long day.

I look around the room and see that the only spare desk is two rows from the front. Thank goodness, as far away from those idiots as possible. Or so I thought.
"Aleisha, come sit in the front and give Steph here your seat. I think you and Austin would do well to have a little break from each other" the teacher says, emphasizing my name. I look around and can tell straight away who Aleisha is; she's that awful cheerleader girl who was fondling the guy from this morning. Said guy appears to be Austin.
"Are you kidding me?!" she pouts, "Austin and I chose these seats at the start of class! They're ours for the rest of the year. You can't d-" The teacher, whose name I now know to be Mr. Cerberus, holds a finger to his lips. The effect is instantaneous. This guy obviously has a lot of influence on the students.
"Aleisha, you will do as you are told before I give you a detention. You wouldn't want an hour cleaning the upstairs bathrooms without Austin do you?" She shuts up, picks up her books and moves forward in silence, but I can just feel the hate being cast out to Mr. Cerberus and I.
"Mr. Cerberus really, I'm absolutely fine to sit in the front" I say, trying to sound to him as though I'm being generous when really, I can't stand to look at that awful Austin - let alone sit next to him. He smiles knowingly, "And you'll be just fine next to Austin too".
This is an argument I'm not going to win. With a huff, I walk slowly to the back and move my chair as far away from Austin as possible, without bumping into the girl next to me on the other side. I place my backpack between us as a barrier.
"Hey babe" he says in a hushed tone, accompanied by one of his seemingly ever-present smirks.
I ignore.
"You can't ignore me forever bub."
I scowl.
"Aww c'mon, what's the matter darl?"
I crack.
"What the frick is wrong with you man? Can't you see I don't want to talk to you? You have a girlfriend of your own and probably too many side chicks to count, do you really think I want to be number thirty eight on that list?"
He raises an eyebrow and his smirk gets even bigger; something I certainly didn't believe to be possible.
"You're cute."
"What the heck was that for?"
"Isn't honesty supposed to be the best policy?"
"Well actually it is, but I can bet you're not going to tell your girlfriend you called the new girl cute, are you now?"
