Hidden Wings

Chapter One

"Ayven! Ayven! Where are you Ayven?!" a little girl called out towards the destruction of the village. There was no answer but she kept calling over and over again until she grew tired and weak. After a while with no energy left she fell to the ground and wept. Her eyes getting heavier she closed them and was close to sleep when she heard the pounding of hooves. She turned around and saw two men on horses. They hopped off their rides and started searching the rubble.
'Oh no scavengers," the little girl thought. She looked around for a place to hide. Then she saw a crawl space big enough for her to get through. Slowly she got up and tried her best to be quiet. She was so close but the scavengers saw her. They ran towards her as soon as she crawled through the space.
'I'm should be safe for now,' she whispered to herself as the men walked away. Soon she fell into a deep sleep, one filled with bad dreams and nightmares.

Far away from the destruction of the villages, in the Kings palace was a young boy kneeling beside a bed crying. He was hugging a hand that had went limp only moments ago. Another boy, a bit older then the first, walked up behind him and put his hands on the little ones shoulders and gave them a gentle squeeze. In there quiet moment a scruffy man walked in, his face puffy from crying. He walked over to the boys and hugged them both.
"My sons," he said with tears rolling down his cheeks and on to the boys shirts. They stood in a silent sadness embracing each other while the body of both mother and wife laid in the bed next to them.

   Morning came and the little girl awoke from a nightmare and crawled out and smelled the air. "Its about to rain," she said to herself. At the palace they were having a funeral for the late queen and the young boy looked up at the sky and saw the dark clouds. He turned to his older brother and said "it's about to rain." His brother looked up at the clouds then turned to his little brother and smiled. "Yeah it is."
