Chapter Fourteen: Bloody Chances
Carl's Point of View
My head was still spinning about what my dad said last night. Out of everyone he could think of, why did it have to be Laedi? I don't have any problem with her at all but Em surely does. And it feels like I should protect her somehow, considering I am her boyfriend and all but honestly, I don't even know whose side I'm on. My dad said I should be on the side that makes me stronger but without Em, how can I be strong without being happy either? I'm old enough to make my choices... right?
When I looked ahead, the prison gates stood in front of us and we ran towards them. Luckily, we weren't gifted with any Walkers as we got nearer. But a sudden pang hit my stomach when I realized something. What if Em and Laedi never got out? What if Em was trapped back at Woodbury? What had happened to Laedi? Well, if she's as strong as dad says, she surely made it out alive. But I'm not getting my hopes up too soon.
Third Person's Point of View
Darl sported an arm around Carol, tensing up a little every time Carol would let out a sob. It wasn't that he was annoyed by her or anything it was just that they never really had any time to talk at the prison. They were just so different. Daryl was a reckless guy who never really thought about or considered anything before killing a person. He was that guy at the party you wouldn't bother talking to because you know he would just roll his eyes because he wasn't interested in anything. Whereas Carol, on the other hand, was soft and loving and tender. She was the mother of the whole group, binding everyone together after a fight. But nevertheless, she was a fighter. Though in some cases, she can be cold, because why fight a battle when you've already lost?
Laedi's Point of View
I kept my head down most of the time. I still had a few cuts and bruises from last night when Em practically tortured the living hell out of me. There were black spots on my stomach from where she had kicked me continuously. For a bratty bitch she could fight a bit. When Em sprinted in front of me, I was about to call her off when I soon realized that she was running towards her bastard of a boyfriend, Carl. They hugged each tight with a muffled 'I missed you' in the air. I positioned myself next to Rick, giving him a slight nod as a form of a hello. In return, he patted my back and whispered, "I thought you were gonna let her die out there." in my ear which caused me to chuckle. As he pulled away, I saw a genuine smile on his face— a smile that I never knew could exist on the face of a man who practically fights for everything he has right now. "She's your son's girlfriend, she makes him happy." I soon realize what I said and immediately stop talking. The smile on Rick's face fades into nothing, so I decide to lighten the mood up a bit. "But to be honest, I should have thrown her off the nearest cliff I saw." This we laugh at until a familiar voice shouts a 'Hey' at us.
As I turn around, I go on a mad dash and into Daryl's arms. "Well thank God you're all right then." Daryl rubs my back as I pull away and smile up at him. "Shut up, you douche." I slap his arm. "Hey, watch your language now, little lady." He smirks. I roll my eyes at him and turn back to the scene behind me. Carl and Em were still hugging and I swear I could feel my heart shatter into a billion pieces all at once. Em looked up at me and gave me her little sly smirk that made me want to throw her into the Walker pit we saw a while back. I let out a little 'oh' which made her dig her head into Carl's shoulder to prevent her from laughing manically. Spinning around once more, I spotted Carol walking out of the woods in tears. My anger for Em immediately dies down when I see her crying figure. I race up to her and put my hand on her back. "Where's Michonne?" Carl asks out of nowhere once he and Em break out of their never-ending hug. I saw Carol flinch and asked her, "What's wrong, Carol?" She breathes out a distinct sob and I guide her into the prison as Rick opens the gates for us. Carl is completely oblivious to what he said so I glared at him out of the corner of my eye as I take Carol into the dish washing area to clear her head.
