I Knew

Over the next few Watches, he would find me. The Shadows would attack, and he would always be there to smirk as I froze up and started shaking, fearing what he had caused in the past. Three times I was about to cross over the border. Thank the Light that Annalise was there to catch me twice, and Flint once.

My friends were starting to notice. To wonder. To ask questions.

Flint always has been staring at Annalise and I. He would be there in our Watch group every time I had Watch. Each time, he would hold out his pinky as a reminder, and I would take it in mine, while sending him 'not yet'. He even tried talking to Annalise, but she would never give him the answers he so desperately wanted.

The prying would never cease. My thoughts would never stop running, and I am worried for the little sanity I hold onto.

"Melody!" A voice stretches through the walls, making my attention divert to the figure that had just walked in. Currently, I was trying to re-coop and recollect myself after the last attack from Watch. No one was gassed, thank the Light, but that did not mean we got out without a scratch; I had earned a broken leg, Annalise a few bruises and nasty cuts, Cameron a black eye, and Jack a fractured hand. Let me just say that the Council has allowed us to take a day or two to regenerate before going back to Watch.

"I know how to kill in at least twenty different ways! If you are a serial killer, I would hightail it out of the country of Light and back to the Shadows where you belong!" I shout, laughing as my brother pops his head through my bedroom door.

"I am ba-ack!" He sings, and I laugh. Although we never see eye-to-eye, he is always one to cheer me up, with his brotherly figure and goofy attitude that I was thankful for. Especially at times like these.

"Dang Tristan, I thought you left for good! I threw a party and everything!" I roll my eyes, laughing, and playing along. He chuckled as his eyes fix on my leg.

"What happened?" His voice gradually reaches a higher pitch. I sigh.

"Watch. We have been getting a large amount of attacks from the Shadows lately," my eyes drop to my bed. I will my thoughts not to ponder. My brother can read people, and he always understands what is running through my head.

"That is what they sent me here for, I guess," he scratches his head. He looks at me, puzzled.

The Council sent him back. This is serious. Not only are my thoughts out of control, but now the attacks from the Shadows are too.

"That is not all, is there?" His eyes pierce through my skull, searching and scrambling. Trying to read me. I avoid his gaze silently, and pray to the Light he stops. "What else is there?" He asks softly, putting his hand on my arm in a comforting manor, trying to soothe me into telling him. I physically scoot away from him.

I do not want to discuss this topic.

"How long?" My voice quivers, putting the spotlight on him. He sees me and sighs, knowing that I would not budge, but giving me my space. I love my brother for this reason; he gives someone time and does not make them do what they are not ready for.

"They did not give me a time frame. But I assume awhile. Is it cool if I stay here for the time being?" He asks casually. I sniff and laugh at his request.

"Of course. I would not have the heart to send you with Cameron," I joke. He chuckles, humor shining brightly in his eyes.

"Never again, please" He full out laughs, and soon I join him. It has been far too long to not hear each other's melodic voice, and I have missed him, along with his laugh. Laughing ceases as I hear my door open again from the entrance way.
