Hades Kid is a Wizard Book 1

Prologue

  A sunny summer day shone bright and merry upon the residents of one camp half-blood. Most enjoyed the golden rays and soft breeze, going about their training and activities with energy and glee. Even those rock climbing the lava wall chatted with little worry.

Not everyone was enjoying the bright day however. The few kids in the camp who favored darkness trudged along in abject misery. The day was hot despite the breeze and the light turned their skin an angry red. One such child was Atreyu, an 11 year old child of Hades.

They were spending the break between activities in the shade of large tree. Their skin felt sticky from the aloe applied to sun kissed cheeks and arms. They would be sure to wear long sleeves next time Apollo decided to give such a day to camp again, heatstroke be damned.

They watched others running in the light, sitting at the pavilion eating snacks, making weapons, and generally having a better than they were. A cup of juice sat forgotten in the grass next to them. They gave a dejected sigh and brought their legs up to curl up comfortingly.

Soon hooves trotted up next to them, but they didn't care enough to look and see who it was. "I have a message from your father, Atreyu." Chiron's voice prodded gently. This got their attention, so they turned to look at the centaur.

"Really? What is it?" They asked. It wasn't often that a godly parent interacted with their offspring. (Unless your name was Percy Jackson, in which case the gods couldn't find enough excuses to bother you...)

"He's concerned about you going home for the fa-"

"I'm not staying in camp all year, I'm not going to spend winter keeping him company, and I'm not gonna miss getting to go to school. Mom is finally letting go to a real school and not just sit alone being homeschooled." Atreyu Interrupted, leveling a defiant glare at the ground. The grass almost seemed to wilt.

"I told him as much when he approached me. However we've come to a solution I think you'll like. Boarding school." He said simply.

"Boarding school?" Their tone was almost flat with incredulity, had it not been for the curiosity that burned inside them.

"Yes, but not just any Boarding school. The one we have in mind is magically protected, so you would be safe to attend there. It is a bit far, Scotland specifically, but I'm sure your mother could be persuaded." The councilor chimed.

"A magic boarding school, in Scottland?" They asked in awe.

"Yes." He chuckled. "However, it is not a normal boarding school."

"The magically protected boarding school in Scottland isn't normal?" The younger said in mock shock. Chiron rolled his eyes with a small smile before continuing on.

"I'm afraid not. You see Hogwarts scho-"

"Hogwarts? What kind of name is that?" They burst out in giggles.

"I know it seems pretty strange, even to someone who regularly sees a half man half horse. I would appreciate it if you would let me finish though. This is a bit important." Chiron waited patiently for Atreyu's fit of laughter to subside.

"I'm sorry, please, continue. I'll try to contain myself." They motioned for him to go on.

"Thank you. Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry," Atreyu gave an astonished look. "is a school for the magically inclined of England and it's surrounding countries."

"How am I gonna get into a school for wizards though? I'm half greek god, not a magician." They said worriedly.

"Your parentage does give you magical powers, does it not? Though the power granted to a child of Hades is great, it is also a bit different from that of a Magician. Your father has pulled a few favors and managed to get something from Hecate to fix this." Chiron pulled a small velvet pouch from his shirt pocket and handed it to Atreyu. The latter pulled its contents out for examining. A long bronze chain gave way to a circular pendant of two snakes.

"An auryn? Seriously? Okay, what is it?" They asked.

"A magic necklace of course." He smirked.

"I got that but what does it do?" They asked again.

"This necklace will give you the same magic as the other children in the school, on top of your demigod abilities. School starts September 1st, you'll be sent over two weeks before with a satyr escort, and will stay in a house your father has set up for you until school starts. Seeing as it's the middle of July, you have about a month." Chiron gave a small nod before trotting off. Atreyu was left to stare at the pouch in excitement.
