The flight seemed incredibly long, but i managed to stay awake. My mom had a difficult time letting go of me at the airport, father said his goodbyes to me at home. He was more shaken up than my mom. He said he hates goodbyes. But you wouldn't be able to tell. He looked emotionless but I knew it was killing him. I told him not to worry, Jacob would be around and spring break wasn't too far away.
My parents had arranged for someone to meet Jacob and I,once we were in the airport to drive us to my new school. Our driver was friendly but quiet. I was secretly relieved. I was too nervous for small talk.  Jacob and I thanked the man as he helped with my luggage. He even offered to help carry the bags to my dorm room  when a tall, lean boy with brown hair approached us . " Hey, I'm Dean." " Need any help with your bags?" Jacob looked annoyed but calmly replied, "No thanks." " I've got this under control." Dean seemed unfazed as he smiled and took a bag out of Jacob's grip. "Really, cuz you look like you're struggling, to me." Jacob sighed as he let Dean carry the heaviest bag and one of my smaller pieces of luggage. Jacob thanked our driver and offered to tip him, but he politely declined. He wished us well and drove away. "I should introduce myself." "I am Dean Foster, transfer student from sunny California and student security." Jacob reluctantly shook his hand and introduced us. "I am Jacob and this is Rene.." But I quickly interjected "Carly Renee' Mason, but you can just call me Carly." The boy smiled and Jacob muttered something under his breath. " Actually, I fibbed," Dean said still smiling. " Only upperclassmen can be campus security, I am just here to assist whomever, wherever." " I don't have a real title, though they insisted on making me wear this name tag." He pulled it out from under his jacket and quickly shoved it back in. " I assume you are in Flemming Hall?" " Yes, second floor." Most students who weren't enrolled for a full year could not get a dorm room. But I had gotten lucky. A student was expelled so her room opened up.
I was nervous about meeting my roommate. Would we get along? Not that we had to be friends, I just didn't want any problems. Dean put the bags on the empty side of the room. I thought maybe I should tip him but I didn't want to embarrass myself. " Well, I hope I will see you around, Carly Renee' Masen." He gave me a wink, nodded to Jacob, and walked down the hall. Jacob closed the door and said, "What a douche!" I ignored him and started to put some of my clothes away. " He seemed nice to me," I replied as I hung some clothes. " And why did you tell him your name was Carly?" " I don't know, new start, plus this way I am not linked to my family name." " No-one would be suspicious or think I was related to any Cullen at all. " " You should have warned me and.." "And what?" " Just be careful." " Most people are not as civil or polite as what you are used to, just be safe." "Jake, of course." " What could happen, I have you to protect me!"
