A New Start

Putting the past behind is never an easy task, but it is necessary. So I repeat to myself at least once a day. My family and I left the only home I have ever known and moved further north to Alaska. We live near our relatives, the Denali's. My mom, dad, and I live just a few miles away from them, right near a lake, that is frozen, for the time being. My extended family lives in a separate house across the lake. We are pretty much isolated from most people. But when you are a vampire, you can't always blend in so well.
We had planned on moving anyways. We don't age and people talk. But the horrible events from six months ago is what catapulted our move. I am still getting used to this house. It is much bigger and decorated totally different. My mom and Aunt Alice spent weeks browsing through magazines and websites to find the perfect decor for our house. Much to the annoyance of my parents, I started decorating for Christmas last week, just before Thanksgiving. I knew that my parents didn't necessarily want to celebrate Christmas, they mostly did it because of me. The best part is yet to come. I will be starting my first year of college in January. I will be attending Washington State and I can't wait.
My father seemed the most reluctant to let me go but my mom had a quiet talk with him. I knew he wouldn't let me go unless someone was there to help me so Jacob will be a student,  too. Though he hates school. Jacob already found an apartment near campus so he will be close by, just in case. My father didn't like the idea but didn't object. He knows how much he means to me. Jacob stayed back home. Today will be the first time I have seen him in a few weeks. He has been working at an auto shop six days a week. He said he wanted Christmas to be special. Today is going to be our "Christmas " dinner. Charlie has to work Christmas day. Also, today I will meet my Grandmother, Renee' for the first time. I can't wait.
The house is full of many rich spices and I am already hungry, although I ate eggs and toast this morning. I offered to help with dinner but Aunt Alice shooed me out of the kitchen. I checked our spare bedrooms to make sure there were clean sheets and blankets. Jacob would have to sleep in the living room, as we only had two guest rooms. If I lived on my own, Jacob would be sleeping in my bed. I could sleep on the floor, or an air mattress, though he would never let me do that. Jacob and I were innocent. We only kiss. I have never seen him naked. I wear a promise ring that my dad gave me last year and promised that I would wait until my wedding night. Most people wouldn't understand but I'm not naive. I have watched HBO. I am not sure when I will get married. Jacob hasn't even proposed to me, though he has to be the one....
I was listening to some old Christmas music, Ella Fitzgerald, when I heard the tinkling of our doorbell. Jake!!! I ran downstairs so fast I  nearly knocked him over! Jacob kissed me quickly; he still feels awkward to kiss me around my parents. He has a bag full of presents, he teased none of them were for me, and set them by the tree. I hoped Charlie would be here soon!
Three hours later and Charlie called to say his flight had been cancelled due to the weather. He said he might be able to make it out in a few weeks. Renee' bailed, too. She said she was so sick and couldn't possibly leave her bed but she was sending presents early, so they would be there before Christmas. I was majorily upset  but Jacob cheered me up. Dinner was still amazing and my mom and dad even left us alone, for a few hours. I was full and happy, with Jacob by my side. Even though he groaned at my choice of a movie, Elf, he let me lay my head on his shoulder as he even chuckled at a few scenes. At some point, I dozed off, because I was in my bed, fully dressed. Jacob must have carried me upstairs. I quickly put on my pajamas and got back into my bed. Everything seemed so perfect! I smiled as I went back to my peaceful sleep...
"Renessemee', we have to leave in fifteen minutes, "my mom shouted as I was hurrying around my bedroom, making sure one last time that I had everything. I couldn't believe January 6th had arrived. Christmas went by so fast but it was the best. Jacob was able to stay a whole week and we never got sick of each other. I only fussed at him once and it was because he drank all the milk. My first day at college. I am a jumble of nerves. I sit on my bed, to calm down and focus. My bags are packed and in the SUV my mom rented. It has the best tires and gets better traction in the snow. I packed some music, though most of the music I listen to is on my phone, extra phone chargers, my Ipad, several books, pictures of my family, including Jacob and the locket my father have me for Christmas. It is the same one my mom has, with a picture of my parents in it.
I know my mom will be calling for me again, so I take a quick look around and grab some loose items, putting them in a bag, and walk down the stairs, to begin my new life.
