Catalina POV
I let out a shriek of happiness as Oahn twirled me around on my feet, the loose summer dress sweeping around my knees. His sturdy hands guided my back throughout the whole dance, the movements learnt from since he was a little kid.
I hadn't expected to enjoy tonight, but Oahn had been a good companion to spend a bonfire festival with. Every time I looked at him, he flashed me his dazzling smile. It worked like a comforting drug, the fire, his companionship. For the first time since Lorem and I had talked, I was actually laughing.
Getting up today was hard. Grief and guilt threatened to choke me as soon as I so much as rolled over, so I had stayed I bed until late in the afternoon, canceling my plans with Miuh. I should have cared more about my responsibilities, but I didn't. I didn't give a damn, actually. But when the clock chimed seven, I had finally mustered the strength to get myself out of bed and into the shower.
Oahn laughed along with me, but his eyes darted between me and the crowd. I wasn't really sure why. According to him, Lorem didn't want to see me, which was fine by me cause I couldn't face him again, but still Oahn stayed close by.
Did he know he was protecting me? Did Lorem know I was with him? Was Lorem here?
I glanced around, hopeful, but found nothing. Not a hint of the wine-red hair, or the light blue eyes, or the adorable smile. Stop, C. It's over. Don't look for him. Just don't.
Oahn noticed me tense. "I think you need a drink." His worried eyes lingered on mine. "Stop beating yourself up, C. He needs time. And a good fight. Nothing you can provide him right now."
I looked the handsome warrior over. His hair was purposely done messy, and a white shirt clung to this muscular body. He looked hot. Really, really hot.
Oahn met my gaze and I quickly looked away. I didn't want to spark his sexual frustration again, like I had done yesterday. I felt a blush creeping up my cheeks. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Oahn watched me amused. "Dirty thoughts, C?"
"Have not." I muttered underneath my breath.
"I can smell it, you know."
I jerked back. What? "You can smell-... my thoughts?"
He pressed his lips together in a wobbly line as he choked down a laugh. "You're adorable." I threw him a glare. "No, I-... we can't really smell emotions but-..." He tapped the corner of his mouth in thought. "Certain feelings have a distinct smell clinging to them. Such as fear. Or sexual frustration."
"You can smell sexual frustration?!" I gasped. Ew.
"Don't look so disgusted, C. It's a rather sweet smell." He still watched me with that amused half-smile.
"Do I smell?" Let's hope not.
Oahn's amusement immediately snapped away, caution replacing it. "I'm gonna get us a dri-..."
"Oahn ..." I folded my arms.
He heaved a sigh in surrender. "Let's just say you need to get laid and you're very sad."
My eyebrows shot up almost as fast as another blush creeped up my cheeks. Could he smell I was horny? Like all the time?
Oahn touched my shoulder tenderly. "Don't be ashamed, C. You're emotions are a mess. Every Elemental who takes our blood, goes through the same process."
My stomach churned in unease. They could smell my feelings? Did Lorem smell my frustration? Oh gods, please no.
I flicked my gaze away. "How about that drink ..."
