Enemora city, capital of Astoria, the marketplace.
"Some cheese, bread, and potatoes please."
I went to the market to gather some things for my sick mother. I have to take care of her, since my father was at training. Getting her medicine, cooking her food, and helping her bathe are just some of the things I have to do. It never bothered me. I'd do anything for my sweet mother. Anything to make her happy.
The worker at the stand gave me my food, I gave him my coins, and I went on home. On the way there, I passed the assassins' training yard. The warm, Autumn trees made their training grounds look so magical. It made me think about when I was little, and how much I wanted to be like them. I still do. I saw my father, and I wanted to say something, but I know that wasn't allowed. He had to survey all the assassins' training. I stayed watching them through the fence until a city guard approached me.
"Move along," He said, "Don't you have somewhere to be? It's getting dark, and I heard your mother is very ill."
My mother is the queen of Astoria and my father is king, so I'm very well known. I did as I was told and went on home. I didn't need my mother to start worrying about me, as it was getting late.

In her mother's bedroom
"I got the food you asked for. Do you need any help cutting it or eating it?" I asked.
"No, dear, but thank you. It would be kind of you to help me sit up though."
"Of course, mother."
I laid the food on the table next to her bed, and helped her sit up so she could eat. I hated seeing her like this, still so young, only in her early 40's. The cursed poison given to her by some lowlife fiend is the cause of her sickness. We think an enemy crept into our kitchen in the middle of the night and poisoned some of our food. Unfortunately, my mother is the only one who was poisoned. I hope she isn't sick for too much longer. I sat at the end of the bed to keep her company.
"Mother..."
"Yes, what is it dear?" She said wearily.
"Do you think I'll ever get to be like father? So courageous, so fearless, so strong."
"My sweet Wynnter. Of course I do, but you know they won't allow it since you're a woman. If there was one wish I had to make before I die, it'd be for you to become the greatest assassin in all of Astoria. Please, darling, do not ever give up. One day...you will show all those doubters that you can do it. That you are strong, brave, and still so beautiful. That you aren't on this world to just do housework. You will become the crowned some day, miss assassin."
"I love you so dearly," I told her, "I promise I will make you proud some day."
"I love you too, Wynnter. Now go get some rest."
I kissed her forehead, draped the blanket across her, then turned off the light. The door shut with a slight creak, and I went to my room just across the hallway. As I layed in my bed, I kept thought about what my mother told me.
I will never give up.
I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
