Camila groaned when her P.E. teacher blew the whistle yet again. She rolled her eyes and wiped the thin layer of sweat off of her forehead before sitting down on the bleachers.
"Go around for another lap, and quit being lazy! You teenagers need your exercise!" he shouted with a menacing tone. "Go, go, go!"
Camila lifted herself up slowly and followed behind the other girls, then turned to her right to see Y/N running with ease.
It's like she's done this a million times before, the Latina thought. You know what, she probably has.
"So, Camila," Y/N spoke up as they continued to run side-by-side. "When do we get to go to lunch?"
Camila shrugged in response, not knowing how long it'd be until their lunch break. She just knew it wasn't anytime soon. "Sometime in the next two hours or so. After our fourth class of the day."
Y/N nodded and continued running alongside her new friend until they were dismissed back to the locker rooms. They changed and split up to head to their third and fourth classes after agreeing to meet in the lunchroom.
When she headed into the cafeteria, Camila evidently spotted the new girl from across the room, then ran to her, happy the day was almost over.
"You're sitting with us, right?" Camila asked, looking around the room for Dinah and her other friends. "You're welcome to if you want."
However, Y/N shook her head. "I only have four classes a day. I won't be eating lunch here."
The shorter girl didn't know how that was possible. She'd never heard of anyone that had four classes per day—it was unheard of. But Camila didn't question it. She had a feeling Y/N was smart, or maybe she was taking her other classes online. Whatever the cause was, she didn't mind.
"Oh, okay. Um, where're you headed off to then?" she asked, disregarding any other questions that may have been intrusive to Y/N's personal life.
"Work," she answered simply. "Tell your other friends I said hello. Maybe I can meet them sometime. Until tomorrow, have a great day, Camila," she smiled cheekily, walking off with a small skip.
Camila then proceeded to her table and told her friends of the previous events. They, too, were confused, and all of them but Dinah were excited to meet the new girl.
And while Camila and her friends were indulged in another conversation, Y/N sat in her car in front of her dad's office. She sighed before turning off the ignition and stepping out.
As she looked at the double doors, she thought about how much her dad considered his business. He had chosen a good place—unsuspecting to anyone that may walk by.
Upon entering, she inhaled the smell of different drinks and the smoke of a single cigarette. The floor creaked when she walked, and the drabness and darkness of the place was depressing. Y/N thought it was definitely fitting for her father's business.
She followed the scent of smoke out the back door and found one of her best friends with a smirk planted on her face.
"Hey," she said. "Playing hookie, are we? Shouldn't you still be in class?"
