You didn't want to speak. It felt as though a single sound, even the slightest twitch and you would desolve into nothing. Tears welled in your eyes as you looked at Death. They slid down your cheeks in streams, the salt stinging in your reddening eyes. There was no way to cry attractively anyway, so why both wiping them away. You lowered your head and looked at the billowing white skirt of your dress. Your skin was brushed clean of anything and your toes dug into the fragrant soil. Your body looked pure, but your chest felt heavy with grief. Just moments ago, you'd accepted your death, but now you were unsure. You were scared.
"Jesus Christ..." You whispered. "What the hell is wrong with me?"
You tried to laugh but your tone cracked with a gasping sob. Your knees felt weak as you crumbled and grit your teeth together. Your knees hit the soft dirt and you dug your fingers into the earth beneath you. Fat, wet tears plastered on the backs of your hands. You couldn't pin its source, but grief overwhelmed you. A mess of emotion you couldn't decipher or console.
Death was silent, approaching you slowly and kneeling next to you. His slim fingers glided through your hair as he tucked it behind your ear. He spared you any excess grasp, but he seemed comforting in that moment. It was funny, how all life you feared death, but as you looked it in the eye, you realized your fear was nothing but a fear of your own consequence. As life was temporary, death was consistent. It was your karma that determined your infinite fate.
"What's wrong with me?" You repeated. There was no response.
It took a few moments but finally, Death spoke in a melancholy tone. "It's time." He said gently. "I'll be waiting for you here."
You nodded slowly and sucked in a shaking breath. As you opened your eyes, your face was sticky with tears and snot. You laughed, but it was quirt and weak. Hades looked at you with his small eyes, but even he seemed to know what was happening. Frisk still slept curled up. It took all your will to look at him without bursting into tears and holding him.
Pain shot through your side as an image flashed against your eyelids. It was attack, a pointed sliver of bone lanced through your side. You bit down on your lip and iron took to your mouth. As you looked down at your side, red grew rapidly over the wound. Hades cawed, hopping back and forth on his stick-like legs.
You looked at Sans and grinned. "Please, take care of him... do for him what I couldn't..." He was asleep, but ever so slightly he shifted. You meant to wake him, but now, as you moved to meet Death in your field of buttercups, you didn't possess the courage. It only made parting so much harder.
A thud echoed from the door, Frisk shuffling about as it echoed. You cringed, looking at the door then at your opened wound. Now pain laced your body, this time releasing with it a curling gust of loose magic particles. You wobbled to your feet and knelt at Frisk's side. Gently pressing your lips to his head, you pulled away without a word. There was nothing you could say to excuse your actions. Blood trailed your steps as you approached the door. It took longer than you recalled, more and more wounds opening around you. Hades glided just in front of you, as though ebbing you forward. Then finally... the door.
You pushed it open with the little strength you had. Your body fell and unable to catch your footing, you landed roughly over the flowers with an echoing thunk. Your vision swam as Hades screeched. It sounded like distant echoes as a large figure came to you. You decided it was best to assume the infamous sillouhette was the monster king. "Please..." you whispered. You weren't even sure if he could hear you. You just felt soft paws pulling at your body. Glittering magic pulled a large gash against your stomach and you bit down your pain. "Please... Asgore..." You sputtered, blood mixing with the salty tears down your face. "My soul... use it. Before it shatters..."
