Chapter 19: The Flashback

William POV:

I open my eyes to a blanket of black around me and a stale aroma in the air. I am in a dark room, an eerie silence fills the haunted space around me. I begin to inch forwards, shaky hands out in front of me, "Anyone there?" I ask nervously.

As if on cue, dim lights flicker around me and I can see five silhouettes of people sitting around me.

"Take a seat," Grumbled a man standing at the front of the room.

The man must have appeared because he was not there just seconds ago. The lights brighten and I see Ignia, Calum, Edwin, A girl I did not recognize and Katlyn. I squeeze down the row and take a seat next to Katlyn.

"What is going on?" I whisper intently in her ear.

She starts to lean closer to me when the man at the front of the room resumes speaking, "You will get four short scenes of your past. The flashback may arouse some tension, but please stay seated and listen carefully. Great care went into this, Enjoy the show," He spat.

The lights went off and a large screen lit up. 

The picture was panning around a dark purple planet that looked horrendous. Black smoke was pouring from craters and massive animals were looming on the premises. A narrative voice spoke around us in a surround sound system.

"Many centuries ago, this was a feared planet, filled wth menacing creatures and unknown species. It was not a destination that any soul desired to even go near. Approximately one hundred years ago a race that call themselves the Arcen's dared to enter the planets atmosphere in order to claim the planet as there home. Many lives were lost during the process of making the land pure. Many creatures hid under the planets surface and hid there for many years. The Arcen's had a population of around one hundred billion, but even after the millions lives lost in the planet raid, the Arcen's only ever explored a fraction of the huge planet. Life was good on the planet for many decades after Arcen's raid, schools were set up for younglings and the planet was only increasing financially & economically."

The scene changed to a picture of a young teenager. It only took me a second to realize that it was a younger version of Ignia.

She was with two other girls squealing and laughing. The school bell rang and the three girls ran inside the school still squealing and holding hands. They skipped into class singing as they went, but the teacher soon hushed them, "Sofia, Alexis, Ignia, Sit down and listen please," asked the teacher patiently. 

"Yes Mrs Berry," they sang in sync as if it were a game.

Mrs Berry continued to talk, and all the kids were listening intently. The class also included myslef, Katlyn and Edwin however, we were were working silently, tracing the alphabet slowly and precisely.

We made many mistakes, but Ignia handed her work to the teacher and she had already finished the extension English and maths work. "Very good Ignia, now don't distract those who are still on there core English work okay?" Mrs berry said softly.

"Yes Mrs Berry," Ignia explained with a mischievous grin all children master. 

Mrs berry came over to where Calum & I are sitting, "How are you two going?" 

"Okay," we both answered. 

"I wonder which one of you two twins are the smartest nut?" she said with a smirk.

 I am panting, I am Callum's twin brother? My eyes are wide open with shock.

 The scene changed to Ignia, much older this time, sitting in what looked like some type of university. She looked lonely, she was sitting by her self reminiscing on her days with her friends. 


Her laptop was open to a math problem she was typing away at with a depressed look on her face.

The hyperbola with equation xy = 8 is the hyperbola x2 – y2 = k referred to different axes.

What is the value of k?

She finished her work and shut her laptop and sighed. She removed what looked like a mobile phone rom her pocket and dialed a number.

"Hello?" Sofia grunted.

"Sofia!"

"Yes, what do you want," she said lazily.

"Um, we haven't talked for ages, where are you, what are you doing?"

"I dont have time to talk, got to go work in the mines, It isn't a easy Job, good bye"

"Wait, could you put Alexis on?" Ignia asked hopefully

"Fine," I could detect a eye roll on the other side of the phone.

"Sorry, don't have time, got to go. Please don't call back again, we are very busy."

"but.." Ignia began, but the call had already ended.

Ignia ran out of the study room in tears and hugged a man that looked like me. "Honey I can do this anymore, when ever I call they just put me down," Ignia says in between whimpers.

I tell her "it is going to be okay, I loved you."

"You are my one and only love babe," she says hugging me, her face wet with tears.

The scene changes once again, and I try to comprehend what just happened. I look down the row of seats to see Ignia looking away from the screen, hiding her face.

The next scene shows a planet smoking, mayhem rulling the streets.

Ignia and I are standing in the middle of what looks like an invasion, and she is crying.

"Ignia, We cant go on together, I can not love you anymore. We must fight for our kind, not for our relationship. I am sorry Ignia," I say, not really focusing on her, but the invasion around me.

"But it can work honey, it will," she says, pleading.

I just simply say "No,"and turn to face a hooded man.

The hooded man says in a low, hideous voice "Will, gather the other assets for your mission. It is time."

"Yes my Lord," I reply obediently.

Ignia screams at me and the screen goes black once again.

This time the scene shows five teenagers on a space ship and many other people from the purple planet I cant recognize.

Ignia is sulking in the corner, while Katlyn, Edwin, The girl I don't recognize who is currently seated beside Katlyn and Myself are all in a deep discussion.

"We must log everything we know in this book, possibly one day it my be useful," I say instructing them.

"Well we are on this ship to earth for five years, there is nothing to do on this boring ass ship so why not," says the unrecognizable girl.

We all start to write down what we know about ourselves in a journal, The men walking around us from Arcen giving us questioning glares.

I whisper to the group "We hide this at our landing site, do we all agree?"

Everyone nods, Edwin speaks for the first time "Retrieving this information may be curtail to fulfilling our masters orders."

Katlyn adds the final words, "I personally don't know if our master is actually on the good side. We may also need this information to bring him to an and," she says darkly, and the screen goes black once again.
