( Jemma's POV)
I sat at the schools dance, sitting at a table alone. I was stood up. I expected it. It's not even that big of a deal, after all I really didn't even wanna be here as it is. I stand up, deciding that I've had enough. I'll go to the café down the street and get a tea. That sounded perfect. On my way out, a boy and girl walk in, giggling and holding onto each other.
I recognize the boy as the one who stood me up. Bradley. I give him a distasteful look, and he smirks saying a small "oops" causing the girl beside him to laugh obnoxiously. "Man whore." I say loud enough for him to hear as I walk out, my white dress flowing behind me. I begin to walk to the café, my gaze held on my white flats, which matched my dress.
I got dressed up for no reason. Suddenly, rain floods from the sky. I groan in annoyance, tears building up behind me eyes. "What'd I do?!" I scream loudly, wondering why this day was going so badly. I continue to walk to the café, determined to get a tea. I have to wait an hour for my Mum to pick me up anyways, and I refuse to go back in there. No way in hell.
I finally get there, sitting in a booth. My dress was soaked and the curls that I spent hours on were no longer in my hair. It's fine though. I go up, quickly ordering a tea, and I hurry back to the booth, and I take my phone out of my bag, thankful that the rain didn't get to it.
Jemma: Mum, I'm at the Café near my school. I left because it was lame
Mum: Alright, Sweetheart I'll be there after work
Jemma: kI take a sip out of my tea and sigh. What in the world am I supposed to do for an hour and an half? I sigh, taking a sip out of my tea. The hotness soothed my throat, making me feel relaxed. Tea makes everything better. I let out a sigh and suddenly someone slides across from me. I look up to see a very skinny boy with blue hair. "You seem lonely." He states.
"Nah." I say jokingly. "Why're you so dressed up? Ya look like a ditched bride." He says and I chuckle. "Close enough. Went to a dance and got stood up." I say and he ahs. "That shitty school dance?" He asks and I slowly nod. "You go to my school?" I ask. "Prolly if there's a dance going on today. I didn't go since I don't even go to school. Not anymore anyways, no use to." He says.
"Oh.. You never told me your name." I say. "Oh yeah I'm Daniel but only call my Dan." He says blankly and I nod. "I'm Jemma." I say and look at my tea. "Do you want a tea? I could get you one." I suggest and he seeks hesitate as he looks at me. "Money won't be an issue if that's what you're worried about." I say and he shakes his head.
"It just might hurt my stomach.." He says. "Come on just one? You're so thin." I state, automatically regretting it. "Crap I'm sorry that was rude." I say right after. "No, no, you're right. I'll take you up on your offer." He says and for the first time since he's sat down, he smiled a tiny bit.
I wonder why he's so.. Depressed. I shrug it off, and stand up ordering him a tea. I pay for it and sit back down, sliding it over to him. He takes a sip, and nods a bit and looks at me. "Not bad." He says and I chuckle. We talk a bit more and I start to notice Dan makes small facial expressions, showing he's slightly uncomfortable or in pain.
"Are you okay?" I ask. "The tea.." He says holding his stomach and I frown. "I'm sorry.. I, I should've listened.." I say and he only shakes his head and takes another sip. "It's good though, I'll be okay." He says. "I'm confused, is it the milk? Are you lactose intolerant?" I ask and he shakes his head. "I have stomach cancer." He says.
Casually, may I add. As if it's like a normal everyday thing. I stare at him, surprised. "I'm sorry." I say and he shrugs. "We all die anyways." He says. "Way to be optimistic." I say and he shrugs. Suddenly, he groans, his hand flying to his mouth and his face shows complete discomfort and pain.
"Oh my, are you okay?" I ask and he says nothing, and runs towards the bathrooms, and swings open the door. I look around, surprised. I stand up, and run after him, not caring if it's the men's bathroom. I open the door, to see Dan in front of the mirror, leaning on the sink. "Are you okay?" I ask again and he turns and looks at me surprised.
"I'm dying but I guess. It happens every time I eat or drink something. That's why I'm so thin." He explains. "Oh you got sick?" I ask and he only nods. "You shouldn't be in here." He says with a small smile. "Don't assume my gender, Dan." I say sassily and he laughs a bit. "Oh crap I didn't know you could do that." I joke.
"I didn't either." He says, his smile dropping and I frown. " 'm sorry." I say. Someone walks in, and when he notices me, he gives me a weird look. "You good?" I ask the guy, and he simply shrugs, and I chuckle. "I think I should head home now." Dan says. He looked paler than normal, and I felt so bad.
I shouldn't have forced him to get a tea. We leave the bathroom and as we're walking towards the door Dan pulls out his phone. "Put in your number. I need friends." He says and I chuckle. "Alrighty." I say and do as he says, creating a new contact and giving him my number.
I walk out with him, and lucky enough for me, my Mum was there. "Do you need a ride?" I ask and he shakes his head. "I drive. Thanks though. I'll text you." He says and I nod. The whole way back my Mum kept asking me questions like
"Why'd you leave?" "Who was that man?" "Are you guys dating?" And it was kinda hilarious. Surely enough once I got home my phone dinged and a message popped up.
