Sam Watts was a normal 16 year old high school student from a small town in Missouri. Or rather, he was until a few days ago. He was a superhuman. He could lift more than any man, run faster than any car, and jump higher than any plane. However, Sam was going to get a lesson on trust, and how even the best of friends could betray you in a heartbeat.
Sam ran down the street, completely lost in thought. He was on his way to his best friend Mark's house. He had decided to tell Mark about the abilities that it seemed that Sam had. For example, last week Sam was failing gym class, and now he was sprinting as fast as he could on end. And, of course, a small part of his mind was on Dawn, his neighbor. He shook his head slightly, forcing his mind to focus.
Sam turned into the driveway of Mark's house, and walked up to the door. He banged on the door, waited a few seconds, then entered the house and went into Mark's room. Mark sat on his bed, playing a video game. He was wearing jeans and a black tank top, his black hair cropped short.
Mark paused his game and stood. "What's up, Sam?"
Sam grinned, "Did you get my text?"
"No. Why?"
"It kind of explains what's up."
"Dude, you know that I don't answer my phone."
"Yeah, well, whatever. Just come on, I'll explain on the way."
Sam waited for Mark to grab his jacket and went outside, waiting. Mark came out, shivering from the cool mid-December wind. "How are you not cold?"
"I don't get cold easily." Sam shrugged, "Anyway, you remember that stupid field trip to the lab we went on for science?"
"Yeah..?"
"Remember what happened on it?" Sam said.
Mark thought. On the field trip, the two boys had gone off on their own to look around, completely ignoring the guide's instructions. They had pretty much left on their own because Mark got bored, and Sam went after him. The boys wandered into a lab that was used to store a highly potent metahuman drug, and Mark scared Sam by jumping out from behind a freezer. Sam fell into a chamber and he inhaled the aerosol. He passed out after that, and Mark called for help. Sam was fine, but the scientists wouldn't tell the boys what had happened, or anyone for that matter.
Mark had just assumed that nothing would come from it. "What about it?" He asked, leaning against a wall, bored.
"I think I got superpowers!" Sam said excitedly. "Sure, I don't feel stronger, but I picked my bed up this morning by accident! And I sprinted here!"
"So? Your bed isn't exactly heavy, and the run is only, like 3 blocks."
Sam huffed, then walked over to Mark's dad's truck. "Fine. Then I guess there's no problem with me just..." He said, grabbing the back bumper and lifting. The truck lifted off of the ground. It was apparent that Sam was straining a bit, a thin gleam of sweat coating his brow and his arms shaking slightly, but he appeared to be able to lift it. He set it down gently, then looked at Mark. "Believe me now?"
Mark gaped. "Nice! So, what are you gonna do?" He stood straight and walked over. "Hold up, if it was 'cause of that gas, whaddya say I go and get some too, and maybe we could-"
"No." Sam said. "It's too dangerous. What if it wasn't done, or somethin'?"
Mark frowned. "You just wanna be the only one with powers."
"That's not it! I just don't want you to sneak into a lab and gas yourself."
"Why are you here, Sam?"
