Ella could hardly get a clear breath of untainted air into her lungs. It all seemed to be filled with his scent. And it was good, too good. She looked this fine wolfy over in an assessing manner, finding him to be rather tasty. He was tall, 195 cm maybe, muscular. He had blue eyes that pierced through her soul and dark brown hair that suited his complexion perfectly. He was extremely handsome and Ella could feel a strong pull towards this man.
Dorian couldn't take his eyes off of his mate. Finally, he had found her. She smelled divine and looked delicious. He wanted to run to her and engulf her in a hug, never to let go again, but Mick was chatting away in his head, trying to get his attention.
"Dorian! Snap out of it! We have an issue here with this hunter bitch," Mick yelled in his head. Dorian couldn't help but growl at this beta for insulting his mate. Mick looked taken aback and turned his hate filled glance back towards the hunter. A hunter. Why was the Moon Goddess so cruel? A hunter as a werewolf's mate? It was unheard of.
"Holy shit!" Mick said out loud. He must have put the picture together. Always a smart man, never too careful with his mouth though. "You have gotta be shitting me? Her?" he exclaimed.
Ella was shaken out of her daze with that.
"What do you mean "her"? I'm standing right here, pup," she was aware of her current situation. Being around the supernatural, she had heard of this werewolf eternal love bond they shared. Once she had even asked a wolf about it, demanded that the rogue explain it to her. She understood the smell and the pull. She even understood why her so-called other half was simply staring at her. "You going to say something, hun?" she taunted Dorian. That snapped him out of his daydream.
"Mate," he finally said. Out loud. There was an audible gasp from the rest of the group of wolves, the rogue had luckily passed out from his beating.
"I know that! You got anything else to share with the class or can I grab my shit bag and move on?" Ella turned all her attention towards the hunking piece of male in front of her.
"Move on?" Dorian asked confused. He couldn't understand any of this. Well, actually that's not true. He understood the shit bag refrence and what she was planning on doing with the rogue. What confused him was her lack of attachment, it was supposed to be instant. He felt it, wanted to hold her and have her right where they stood. Why wasn't she feeling the same?
"Yeah, I have places to be and monsters to kill," she mentions in a matter of fact way. Mick and the rest of the wolves growl at her comment.
"Mick, take the rogue and rest of the guys, head back. Toss the "shit bag" into a nice barred room and wait for me at my office," Dorian commanded. Mick gave him a look of utter confusion, but complied with his request.
"Hey! What the hell! He belongs to me!" Ella protested out loud, but it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Mick, or whatever his name was, grabbed the unconscious wolf and dragged him off towards the pack house, supposedly.
When they were surely all alone, Dorian took a hesitant step towards Ella. She didn't back away and Dorian took it as a good sign.
"What's your name?" he asked his mate. He wanted to know nothing more than her name, it was the only thing he needed to know about her.
"Why bother with introductions? I'm not staying, sorry," she answers bluntly.
"But you and I are mates," Dorian replies. He can almost feel his heart breaking. His wolf is scraping against his consciousness, trying to get out. "Don't you feel the pull?" he demands Ella.
"Sure," she answers truthfully, "but it changes nothing for me. I am a hunter, you are a wolf. A cute wolf that I wouldn't mind rolling around with, but still... you are a wolf and I hunt animals like you. This here would never work!" she explains. Dorian's mind was full of conflicting messages. She wants to leave us, she finds us fuckable, she would kill us. All those thoughts were crashing his brain.
"No!" he yells. "I will not allow you to just leave without giving this a shot. You don't know enough about the mate bond, obviously. You don't understand what's about to happen between us. Tell me your name, please," he begs her. Ella smirks and rolls her eyes.
"Fine, wolfy. It's Ella. And about this mate bond shit, I do know about it. I get it. I just don't care enough to try. I want my prey and then I'm out of here," she stays strong in her convictions. What the hell is she supposed to do with a werewolf mate? Have his puppies and become a white suburban housewife? Never!
Dorian's wolf was over the moon when he heard their mate's name. Ella. It made him tingle. He almost didn't care that she wasn't interested in his name. Almost. Dorian straightened his back and decided to put his pack before his own happiness.
"I'm sorry mate, I mean Ella, but I cannot hand the rogue over. He crossed into my land, his fate is in my hands now. I will not force you to stick around, but I do ask that you at least consider giving this a chance. You and I, we were meant for each other. Now that we have found each other, it's going to be painful to be separated for a long period of time. Please, just give me some time to prove to you, that we are not all animals as you so ignorantly put," Dorian tries to reason with Ella. She scoffs.
"No, thanks," is all she replied before turning around and heading back towards the rogues' camp. She still got four hides to collect.
"I will always be here for you!" Dorian yells after her. Ella simply waves him off and starts running, suddenly wanting to get away from the wolf as fast as possible. Her heart feels like it's being squeezed and she finds breathing hard.
She picks up more speed and runs as fast as she possibly can. The bigger the distance, the more it hurts. There's a heart breaking howl in the distance, Ella knows it's her mate, but she doesn't stop, she picks up even more speed.
"That's just peachy!" Ella thinks to herself. Another inconvenience she has to live with. That's just fucking super.
