It was now one in the morning; Charles shook himself awake again and saw the girl in the same situation. True he had told Erik she would survive but he didn't even believe it himself, if she didn't wake up soon she would die of starvation, so despite the risks, Charles made his decision and held his two finger to his temple.
"Can you hear me?" He thought, "I'm trying to help you."
He waited for a response but couldn't read anything besides the pain, he decided to risk going deeper into her mind until he found her name: Paiton.
"Paiton you have to wake up or you're going to die."
Charles felt Paiton trying to defend her mind but considering she wasn't a telepath it was useless. He used his power to block out her pain and kept trying to reason with her until she calmed down. When Charles left her mind Paiton seemed more relaxed than before, she opened her eyes less than five seconds later and sat up sharply. She winced as she felt her pain come rushing back.
"W... where am I?" Paiton asked as she looked around.
"Division X. I'm Charles Xavier, my friend, Erik, and I have been finding mutants to help us stop World War III."
"Others are here!" She felt a flash of heat and then felt as if something inside was melting. "I... I can't stay here. I could kill someone."
"No you won't. Come on let's go tell the others you're awake." Charles stood up and walked to the door. "You do feel well enough to get up right?"
"I think."
Paiton stood up shakily and went pale as the room started to spin around her, she didn't feel well at all but it was more from the feeling of cold and melting, something she couldn't quite explain, rising up inside her. Charles steadied her and they walked out of the room and through brightly lit hallways. She was led into a room where seven other mutants were standing around talking, they looked up when they approached and went silent.
"She's awake." Erik stated.
"Everyone, this is our new friend Paiton she will be helping us." Charles introduced her then went on to introduce the others.
"Well she might need a couple days until she fully recovers." Raven replied.
"I appreciate this but I can't stay." Paiton shook her head and a pained look crossed her face. "I already told Charles it was too dangerous."
"Do you really think you have a choice? You're here now so you might as well stay." Angel told her.
"It's too dangerous."
"Why don't you explain to them and perhaps they can help?" Charles suggested. "You can talk to us we're your friends now."
"Well, it all happened two weeks ago... I was with my friends, we went to the movies and then on the way home we were attacked by a psychopath, he killed one of my friends, Natalie I think, and when they tried to slit my throat I panicked." She paused and they watched her silently, waiting for her to continue. "That's when I felt really cold, and the guy caught on fire. My other friend backed away from me... he called me a monster and ran off. After that I can't remember. I think I passed out."
Charles comforted her and kept her mind in check, she was going to have to control her emotions if she was going to get a hold of her powers. Once she had calmed down enough he left her mind. The others were silent; unsure what to say that would make her feel better, eventually though Erik broke the silence.
"So what are your powers exactly?" He asked.
"Um... w... well fire obviously a... and i... ice. I can also control ice." Paiton stuttered.
"That doesn't sound like a good mix." Hank observed.
"It's why I was passed out so long... all I felt was pain, either like I was suffocating or like something was melting."
"Come on why don't we show you around, maybe get something for you to eat." Charles told her. "You guys need to come too, we didn't finish your tour yesterday."
