I can feel his eyes leering on us, his imagination intermingling with his vision as they result in a recipe for disaster. Behind those eyes are intelligent plans destined to snuff us out like candles. I observed intensely as those pupils dart here and there within the boundaries of his eyeball, I watched hopelessly, not knowing what other plans were being crafted in his untouchable mind.

My gaze switches to the destruction that has befallen over New York.  The windows on the buildings were coughing out puffs of jet black smoke, and every now and then shattered glass would come raining down from high-rise skyscrapers.  Cars and trucks were thrust high up into the air and they came crashing down on civilians. Dust, bricks and stones pocked the once busy streets of the city. Screams and cries spread throughout the site of chaos.

Then among the cries of despair, I heard a faint chuckle.

Although faint, the sound of that infamous chuckle burnt a hole in my mind, and it also led my fears and panic up to pinnacle where my hands felt numb. In fact, every other part of my body felt numb. I can no longer feel what’s going on. My body was literally pinned down by fear.

My eyes sweep around to find the source of that chuckle. And they did.

A dark figure stood out from the smoke that surrounded me.

More people screamed as he came into view.

I knew I was dead if he saw me. He'd kill me ruthlessly. Just like the other thousands of people. But determination was still running strong in me, and I garnered every ounce of energy left in me to hoist myself up back on foot. Every inch of my body screamed in protest, especially my twisted ankle.
