The first few steps sent an explosion of agony throughout my body. I limped a few steps, and then stopped to take a look at my legs. I grimaced at the sight of them. A deep gash ran down my shin, blood oozed out of it profusely. I bent down to touch it, but the pain made my fingers retreat.
I had to get to safety, despite the pain.
But one look at my tumultuous surroundings, the city of New York was completely unrecognizable. Right now, there was no place here that could ensure me safety.
All my options now have died out and my chances of survival were dwindling.
My mind was bone dry out of ideas what to do.
Then I heard the ear-curdling boom of an explosion. My body instinctively engaged itself in a steady run. My lips parted to release a scream. At first I couldn't feel anything from my unruly leg, but as the shock wore out, the pain started to grow.
I continued running.
At one point the pain was tearing me apart, and I just couldn't take it. My knees buckled and I struck the ground, my cheeks slamming against it. Stars danced in my eyes, then I felt my mind getting enclosed in complete darkness. The pain continued to gnaw at my leg, but it began to fade when I started to lose grip of the world.
I watched as my entire world collapsed before my eyes, and now I was ready to accept my fate. I was ready to embrace darkness. I was ready to let the wings of death encase me in its unfathomable depths.
I took a presumably last look at the city. The life of this concrete jungle has ebbed away completely.
It was just so sad.
