The Involvement
"Coan," Andrew said.
"Yes, Coan should definitely preserve our life," Kate responded. "June would also be a good choice."
"Let's just do the whole popular group," suggested Andrew. "The whole school if we have to."
"Keep it small for now," Kate reminded Andrew, "Coan, and June."
"Okay," Andrew agreed, "but where is the book?"
"Lily has it," Kate replied.
"Okay," Andrew said.
"Now here is the plan," Kate explained, "I will sneak it into June's backpack, and then when she is done I'll do the same to Coan."
"Okay," Andrew said, "let's go get that fucked up book."
The encounter
Lily woke to find herself outside. She was lying beneath a tree. Kate was the first thing to exist in her field of vision. "Where am I?" asked Lily.
"Mark Road," Kate replied.
"That's five blocks away from the jail." Lily expressed.
"Yes it is," Andrew responded, who Lily hadn't realized was there until now.
Lily sat up. She was holding the book.
"Can we have that?" Kate asked.
"Yes!" Lily said, almost throwing the book at Kate.
"We might need to explain some things," Kate said.
"Where am I supposed to go?" Lily asked.
Kate pondered the question for a bit before answering. "You can stay at my house," she suggested. "But, now time to explain things."
And they did explain things. Lily had a hard time figuring out if this was fake, but how could she explain the weird things that had happened to her? She decided it was real at the end.
"I know you probably don't believe u-" Kate tried to finish.
"I do," Lily cut Kate off.
"Yeah, okay, great," Kate responded.
"You guys do know you're using the book as a weapon to kill your enemies, right?" Lily asked. This shut everyone up for the rest of the walk.
The Rip
Kate opened the door quietly. "Mom?" Kate called. But there was no answer. Kate swung the door open and Kate and Lily entered.
"Are you hungry?" Kate asked.
"Yes," answered Lily.
Kate opened the fridge. "What would you like?" she asked.
"Anything," Lily responded.
Kate grabbed an apple and tossed it to Lily. There was a moment of silence before Kate asked Lily if they wanted to determine where she would spend the night.
"Sure," Lily responded.
Kate walked into the hallway and opened a door. She got out a sleeping bag and placed it on a table. She then covered the table with a blanket.
"There, how's that?" Kate asked.
Lily broke into tears. Kate tried to calm her down but nothing would work.
"Lily, what is it?" Kate asked frantically, but Lily continued to weep. After a few minutes, she calmed down.
"I can't believe this," she explained. "I'm condemned for murder, and I didn't even do it, that book did it." Lily looked at the book and Kate read her mind.
