Jimin POV
the city lights of los angeles are so beautiful. realising i would be landing soon made my stomach twist into a knot. i was so nervous because i am now in a country with a language i don't speak fluently. i am so grateful for that korean-american lady that helped me and guided me on how to get through customs and everything.
i walked towards the exit of LAX airport, carrying my heavy suitcase and see if i could find my host family. this airport is huge and filled with so many people i'm worried i won't be able to find them. i look around until i notice a family of people that seem to be korean holding a sign while also looking around. i walk towards a direction i would be able to see the sign and read what it says. i see my name written in hangul and i nervously walk towards them.
"excuse me," i say.
"oh, are you Park Jimin?" the woman asks.
i nod and she smiles.
"hello, nice to meet you. I am Kim Hyejin and this is my husband Kim Sunghoon and my son Kim Seokjin," she says while gesturing toward the two males.
i face them and mutter a quick hello and bow.
they start walking and gesture for me to follow them. we walk into the large, multi-story parking lot and towards their car. i'm not very knowledgeable car but it was blue and had enough to seat 5 people including the driver.
the entire drive to the kim's house was silent and i stared in awe at all the night life of LA. the entire drive was probably 40 minutes. i didn't really keep count as i blankly started out the window most of the time.
once we arrived at the kim household mr. kim helped me in bringing in all my luggage into the house. and by help i mean he grabbed both of my suitcases and took them inside while i insisted that i could take them on my own.
"i hope you slept as much as you could on the plane as your first day at an american school is tomorrow," said mrs. kim. "now, there are rules that you will be expected to follow throughout your stay here but i'll explain everything tomorrow. we also all have chores to do in this house and i will decide what you will be required to do, understood?"
i nod silently and gulp at the seriousness of her tone of voice and face.
she then smiles tiredly at me. "alright, well for now go get as much sleep as you can. you will be sharing a room with seokjin," she says while gesturing to seokjin. "jinnie, please take jimin to your room and help him get settled as much as he can for now and get to sleep as soon as possible."
i look towards seokjin and he gestures for me to follow him upstairs to his room and i silently follow, not forgetting to bow to mr. and mrs. kim and wishing them a goodnight.
once inside seokjin's room he lets out a loud sigh before flopping on his bed while i stand awkwardly at the door.
"so are you gonna just stand there or are you gonna come in?" seokjin says suddenly, making me slightly jump.
"huh?"
he gets up and grabs me by the arm, pulling me inside and shuts the door. "i'm kidding! but seriously, don't be scared. i won't bite. plus, it's your room too now."
he grabs my suitcases and places it next to the bed by the window and a white drawer cabinet.
"that is your bed and that drawer is where you'll keep your clothes. i mean, you could also use my closet if you'd like but i have a lot of clothes so i'm not sure if it'll all fit," he says.
"it's fine," i say.
"woah."
"what?"
"your voice is so high. i didn't expect that. and your accent is different from mine."
i blush at the mention of my high pitched voice.
"i know my voice is high, and i sound different because i grew up speaking a different dialect of korean. i had to learn how to speak standard fluently but i haven't really mastered the accent," i say sheepishly.
"it's cute so don't worry," he says, getting closer to me and booping my nose. "i just noticed how adorable you are," he says while squeezing my cheeks.
"thank you?"
he gasps and feels my face. "what the heck your skin is so smooth and soft. give me your skin care routine!"
"my what?"
"agh, never mind. just set clothes aside for tomorrow. our school doesn't have uniform so you can dress however you'd like," he says while grabbing clothes, most likely pyjamas, from his brown drawer cabinet.
i nod and open my suitcases and put as much clothes as i can into the drawers. i set aside white overalls and a pastel pink hoodie and the pyjamas i'll be wearing.
seokjin comes back wearing black shorts and an oversized white shirt.
"the bathroom is right across the hall for when you decide to go change and brush your teeth and whatnot," he says while yawning and climbing into bed. "im going to sleep now, school starts at 8:00 am and it's 5 so you better hurry if you want some sleep. goodnight jiminie."
"goodnight," i reply quietly.
i quickly grab my toothbrush and toothpaste, along with the clothes i wear for pyjamas and walk as quickly as i can to the bathroom.
i brush my teeth and quickly change into my gray shorts and white shirt with "I Love Busan" written in big letters on it.
i walk back towards my new bedroom as quickly and quietly as i can and climb into bed, pulling the blankets over me. i stare at the ceiling as i dawns on me that i forgot to ask seokjin his age. i don't know wether to call him by his name or call him hyung. eh, oh well. i'll just ask tomorrow morning.
i slowly close my eyes and drift off to sleep anticipating the events of tomorrow.
