"Ali, are you free this evening?" I hear my office door open and Mireille, my friend, walks in.

"Um.... yeah I think so. Why?" I say as I turned around and walk to my desk.

"I have something planned, something really big. So I'll see you at my place at 8. Ok?"

"Yeah, sure" I answer. I already know what it is. Every year Eill plans something for my birthday. Either it's a party or a trip somewhere.

"Ok, see you then." As Eill walks out, Spencer my secretary rushes in.

"Alex you have a meeting in five minutes. Will I inform Natalia about this?" Nati is my Deputy CEO and my best friend.

"Yes, please, and Spencer, can I please have a cup of coffee? Thanks" I really need an energy boost.

"Yes, miss, I'll bring it right in and inform Natalia."

After Spencer is gone, I walk to the windows. The view from here is amazing, as you can see most of Seattle from here. As I look out, my mind is racing with thoughts. I have some problems with the Insurance company. That's probably what the meeting is about. One of the warehouses of Browne Enterprises in England was burned down. The culprit wasn't found. The police are still searching....

At the meeting, all we talk about is the fire. At the end, Karen, the deputy secretary, tells me I need to go to LA tomorrow. I was planning some free time with my friends. Oh well, I can just bring them with me. Perks of being me.

After work, I get ready for Eill's surprise. As I wait for Eill to pick me up for the party, I text on the group chat.

Alex: Hey guys, are ye down for a trip to LA?
Nati: Hell yeah.
Kate: I'm in.
Oliver: Sure
Eill: YAS!!!
Alex: Eill, what are you doing? I thought you were supposed to pick me up.
Eill: Yeah, I'm coming.
Alex: You can't text and drive!!!
Eill: I'm not driving. I'm at a red light.
Oliver: I think that still counts.
Eill: Um..... I'm not driving. I stopped the car. Alex come out before Oliver annoys me even more.

As I come out, I notice that Eill is dressed in her very best dress, which means only one thing - party.

"Hey, come on, cause we're gonna be late."

"Eill, please don't say there will be alcohol, you know I don't drink."

"Oh come on. It's your birthday, a little drink won't hurt you."

"Nope, sorry, I will make a huge fool of myself, and there will be people there. I can't do that." I make a fool of myself all the time, but especially when I'm drunk.

"Yeah, ok, whatever you say, but you're still coming and you will have fun, promise me?"

"Sure." I promise.
