Spring was sitting on a bench in the guards' break room when a group of other guards came in. Their laughter stopped as soon as they saw Spring. They started snickering and whispering. Her eyes turned a bright red as she knew they were talking about her. She kept polishing her sword and tried not to notice them. "Oh look, " Max said, " She's trying to be a guard." Some of them laughed and Max continued, "It's not like she can actually use the sword anyways, why polish it at all." Everyone laughed at this. Then, she heard someone else, "Yeah, a dog could use a sword better than her. Actually, anything could!" There was a roar of laughter. Spring stood up she walked out after collecting her things.
She ran to the stables and saddled her horse, Bramble, as fast as she could. She mounted and cantered towards the cabin.
Outside of the cabin, she saw her best friend, Fawna, outside feeding her pet, Filly the Phoenix. Spring unmounted, her eyes a deep blue for sorrow. She unsaddled Bramble and put him in his stall, then she ran inside yo her room. She locked her door and laid down on her bed tears streaming down her face.
She heard a knock on the door, it was Fawna. " Are you okay? " her best friend asked. She didn't answer, hoping Fawna would get the hint. "Dinner will be ready soon... I'll bring it to you so you don't have to come out."
