the feeling of your loved one being ripped apart from you was simply excruciating. it was like a piece of you gone forever. by the tone of my mother, i was unlikely to see her again. but if it was for my own good, i will follow my mother's wishes and excell in camp, doing whatever she wanted me to do. i WILL be the best in camp, but most importantly, stay safe. that way, my mother would be happy.
the train ride to new york wasn't very smooth. on the train, Meadow had to constantly comfort me that all is well and that i would be safe at camp. i asked her what kind of camp was i going to be at, what would i do there, and why would my mother want me there. all she said was "its best if you don't know now" i wanted to insist on knowing the answers to those questions, but i thought that my mother would want me to follow Meadow's instructions.
so i listened.
i had to be strong.
a crying girl no more.
be strong, Seraphina Evans.
the train ride to new york was silent. Meadow kept glancing around furtively, as if someone was following us. i hoped she wasn't. if was, maybe thats why mother wanted to send me away, to protect me safely at camp.
i asked Meadow where she was from, and what she did during her free time, to break some ice between us. Meadow told me she was born in camp and her parents loved nature a lot but they sadly passed away when she was young. she was brought up by her uncle but she always wished that her parents didn't die. that made me realise that at least having one parent is better than having none. oh how i missed mother.
our journey to manhattan was smooth, almost smooth.
when we reached manhattan train station, we immediately hailed a cab to bring us to camp. immediately, Meadow's eyes widened and her ears perked up (literally). Meadow hurried me onto a cab and we whisked through the busy city of new york. i sensed something was wrong and i gently nudged Meadow. i could see in the look of her eyes that danger was approaching but i also knew that she won't tell me what it was. so i shut my mouth. but when the cab started shaking slightly, i thought " danger " but thank goodness it was just the cab going up a hill. halfway through the hill, Meadow stopped the cab and gave him some money before grabbing my hand and running into the never ending woods. being only seven, i didnt question much but an avalanche of questions were whizzing in my head. out of a sudden, i heard a deep growl. glancing at Meadow for some signal, what i saw was only fear radiating in her large brown pupils. a tree snapped and what i saw would remain in my mind forever. a huge giant with and eye (yes an eye) glared down at me. "RUN!!!" Meadow screamed. i ran as fast as i could but every 20 steps i took was equivalent to a single step of that giant. "HALF-BLOOD!!" the giant hollered "DINNER!!" whats a half blood? but as usual, my questions did not come with answers. i followed Meadow as closely as possible, but she was running twice as fast. and she sprouted goat legs. wait what? goat legs? another question to add on to my question list. i finally had the motivation to run faster than i had before. seeing a 200 kilogram giant running behind me and a better chance of my questions being answered.
so i ran.
and ran.
and ran.
till i saw it.
