Pulling up to the party, all you could hear was the thumping of a bass. I looked around to see we had parked at a farm with a big, gray house at the end of the driveway. The house belonged to a set of twins, Molly and Robert Grayson. They always held the beginning of the year party when their parents went on their weekend anniversary trip every year.
The bonfire in the backyard was blazing with hundreds of people littered around the yard, probably more inside.
I walked down the stone pathway, following Emily, Riley and Evie. There was a giant keg of beer in the middle of the farm, something we didn't normally experience in Australia. Since it was legal to drink, every party had a bar. I shifted my focus forward to see I had lost sight of the girls.
I swiveled my head around looking for a familiar face. I didn't see anyone, so I began to roam around. I got a lot of strange looks from girls I didn't know and tried to shrink into the background.
My eyes finally focused on Shawn and Christian talking to three other guys I didn't know standing next to the keg. I walked over and filled a cup, turning to stand next to Shawn.
"You know, I guess you were right, even within the 10 minutes I've been here, it's been pretty stellar." I smiled and sipped on my red solo cup to hear the guys I didn't know laughing with me.
"The only thing is that back home, it's actually a hell of a lot better." I felt Shawn's arm wrap around my waist and didn't object. He chuckled and spun me around, pointing to all of the people littered across the yard, the firepit, and multiple kegs.
"Babe, we're just getting started."
------
It wasn't long until I had finished off my second cup of stale, flat beer. It was gross, but I loved it. I grabbed Shawn around the waist and began to dance with him. I wasn't in the least bit intoxicated, but I just felt like being wild.
A fast beat came through the speakers and my hips began to speed up against his. By the way he was touching my lower back and pulling me closer I could tell he enjoyed it. I turned around and grabbed around his neck, feeling his lips softly kissing my shoulder. I sped my hips up and melted into him.
I turned around and looked into his eyes. His green eyes were lit with a fire. His smirk had me captivated and in awe. I couldn't help but lean towards him, closing my eyes, ready for the kiss. I almost kissed him, only to be shoved by another group of guys that had begun a fight. I sighed and turned around to see Shawn standing next to Lee, Christian, Emily, Riley and Evie. After half an hour of hanging out with Shawn, I had forgotten about the only people I knew in America.
"Livi! There you are! We lost you as soon as we walked in and it's just so hectic. We saw Lee and Christian when we were getting a beer, and they said that they saw you and Shawn walking over towards the firepit." Emily grabbed my arm and yanked me in the direction of the house.
"C'mon, I gotta show you something."
All four of us walked towards the house but were pulled around the side by Emily. She let out a squeal and jumped up and down.
"HOLY SHIT! Livi! You and Shawn! Are y'all like a thing now, or what? It might be too soon but he's totally into you. I mean like he almost kissed you, and then y'all were dancing, and I don't even know but that was hot!" Evie did the same happy dance that Emily had done and I began to think that they had gone crazy.
"We're not a thing! God no! I mean not that I don't want to be, but I mean... I don't know! I want to. I think? I mean he's so sweet. And cute. And funny! Let's just see how it works." The three of them shook their heads in agreement.
"Now now..." Riley began. "It's time to get drunk."
----
The rest of the night was uneventful but incredible. It wasn't until midnight that the party began to die down and everyone began to leave. The seven of us decided to hang out around the fire for a little bit before heading back. We were just getting the alcohol out of their systems with bottles of water for everyone.
I felt a pair of hands wrap around me and without a doubt I knew it was Shawn. My hands wrapped around his neck and I melted into him for the second time tonight.
He whispered into my ear, "Do you want to, you know, get away?" My chest tightened up when he said that and my whole body tensed along with it. "No you know what I shouldn't have asked I'm sorry. Forget it." He had sensed my uncomfortableness with the situation and I was happy that he understood.
"I'm sorry it's just, you know..." I tried to explain but couldn't. I was too nervous.
"Don't worry about it Liv. I'm sorry for asking. I completely understand." I knew that he was sweet and had decided to officially pursue him. I turned around and faced him. After a long awaited time, I kissed him on his beautiful lips and it felt great. We both pulled back, smiling.
"Livi, do you, perhaps, want to go on a date tomorrow?" My smile grew wider.
"That sounds wonderful."
