Short Prologue:
It's been 125 years since The Saulex Plague broke loose, running the world to disaster. Scientists believe it began in what was once known as The United States of America, but because of how quickly it spread, they can't be sure. It started with just a simple cough, a fever, pain in your stomach, and if you were one of the lucky ones, it was gone within a couple of days. But if you weren't lucky enough, you're symptoms worsened, and quickly turned into a disaster. They say that you lost your mind, until it drove you to death. Usually a suicidal death.
Over the amount of time it took for scientists to find a cure, almost all of the worlds population was dead. If you didn't die from sickness, then you starved to death. The Saulex plague lasted for a span of 3 years, leaving more than 3/4th's of the world's population gone.
The people that had been cured began having all types of breeding disabilities, children being born with half healthy organs, or even worse dying at birth. They soon figured out how to fix it, but it came with side effects that could last years to come. Any children born after the parent got the antidote, were all born with the same features. Auburn hair, dark blue eyes and hardly any real feelings. After they took the antidote, the generations to come would never have to take it again. Of course it didn't always turn out perfectly, people being born differently every so often.
And these people? They were known as the Extraordinaires.

Chapter 1
Harlo's POV
I open my left eye, my surroundings slowly becoming clearer. There's two things I notice in my room: my sister is no longer asleep in her twin sized bed, and it's already 8 o'clock. My 13 year old sister, Ember, must have woken up and left off to school without me. Just lovely.
To say my sister didn't like me was an understatement. She absolutely despised me. Ember completely ignored me at school, but she was definitely not the only. Just about every single person did, and if I wasn't ignored, I was hated on.
I was suddenly wide awake, no longer feeling like I needed a few more hours of sleep. Sprinting over to the beat up dresser that my sister and I had shared since we were young, I quickly threw on my school uniform from my drawer. I rushed over to our cramped bathroom and quickly brushed my teeth, running my pale fingers through my thick, curly, fire red hair. Slipping my black school shoes on, I grabbed my bag and scampered out the front door.
I've always hated how dark it always is, never bright and beautiful like the books say it once was. But today I hated it even more, because I missed the bus now having to run all the way to school.
Come on Harlo, faster. I kept repeating through my mind, trying to focus on my pace. Today was the first day back to school and I was already over it.
School was basically hell to anyone who wasn't 'perfect'. Or at least that's what I've heard. I've only ever meant one other person like me, and I guess you could say we were friends. He disappeared a few years back, out of the blue, and ever since it has been an unsolved mystery. Felix was more liked in school than I was, with auburn hair like everyone else, but different colored eyes like I myself. And his body? Never found.
I bent over, hands on my knees to catch my breath. I'd finally reached my destination. Woohoo. Using only the streetlights for guidance, I quickly walked up to the hell-hole that people call school.
But then something stopped me. I slowly turned around, and began walking toward a beautiful soft melody. It was as if I couldn't help but keep going, something pulled me towards the music. My heart was pounding loudly in my chest as I walked toward the side of school. I peeked around the corner, not wanting to be seen by whomever it was.
My heart stopped when he turned my way. Facing me was the most astonishing person I have ever seen. From what I could tell from the faint street light above him, he had a sharp head frame, with darker hair than we were supposed to have. His eyes appeared to be Hazel, almost yellow, and he was tall, about 6'5. He wore a black leather jacket with what looked like a Black X on the backside of it, a white shirt, and dark faded jeans.
The stranger played the most amazing music I've ever heard. His fingers moving graciously across the wooden implement, and eyebrows furrowed in concentration. I saw his mouth was murmuring something, perhaps a song.
Where did he come from? He slowly turned around, so his back facing me. Curiosity got the best of me and I started walking closer to him, just to get a better look and maybe figure out what he was saying.
I shot my head toward what sounded like shoes scraping against the sidewalk. There was a girl, about the same age as me. I noticed she was wearing the same leather jacket as the boy playing the instrument.
"Hey Gray, don't forget it's my turn to-" her voice stopping mid sentence as she looked up noticing me. The girl was a spitting image of the boy she called Gray, darker hair with golden eyes. They were both breathtaking, possibly the most attractive people I've ever seen.
"Aw man, I wanted to find her!" The girl stomped her feet and pouted, but kept walking towards us and I turned to look back at the boy she called Gray. He looked at me for just a second, emotionless as if he didn't care at all.
He looked at the girl and chuckled. "More like she found me," he smirked, and started to put the interesting instrument into a leather black, almost matte, case.
Ah, of coarse. He's one of those cocky mysterious guys I've read about in the old books. My grandmother gave me a whole lot of older things before she died, books being one of the few. She was the only person who went out of her ways to support me. "Don't listen to what other people tell you, and always remember Harlo, you're-" That was the last thing my grandma ever said. She didn't even get to finish her whole sentence.
She snickered and pulled open her bag. "Yeah whatever. We have to leave soon, before it's too late," the girl exclaimed before pulling out an object I've never seen before
"Um..excuse me, don't mean to interrupt but what's going on?" I looked back and fourth from both of them, hoping for some answers. They both chuckled and started to close in on me, each on one side.
Just before I had the chance to scream for help, the boy threw his hand over my mouth. My screams were muffled as I tried to break free, but he grabbed my arms and scoffed, "She's feisty, just like her mother." What was that supposed to mean? My mother died giving birth to me, so I never even had to chance to meet her. Before I could even process what was happening, the girl grabbed the mysterious object and began to walk towards us.
She lifted the object with her left hand and I heard a loud thud, before everything went black.

I awoke from my groggy state in a pitch black room. My head was pounding and it felt like I had the worst hangover possible. "Hello?" I cried out, my voice scratchy and echoing.I breathed in the sudden smell of masculinity and mint. "Boo," I heard someone whisper in my ear. Although I should have been frightened I did not make one single noise.
"What's going on? Where am I? What do you want from me?" I screamed at him.
The man let out a humorous laugh, as if I'd told him the funniest thing in the world. "Oh Lou, you ask far too many questions my dear." A very familiar voice exclaimed. Ive only ever been called Lou by one person, and not since I was 4.
I managed to stutter out only one word, "D-Dad?"
