When I was just a little girl,
My dad would sing to me,
The song You Are My Sunshine to help me fall asleep,
To this day it brings me joy even singing it alone,
Its just a little part of him that i will always have,
When I'm feeling gloomy or sad,
Like the day he passed away,
In his hospital bed,
I sang it in my head,
It made me feel better but also very sad,
I never though it would be so true,
First you would sing it to me...now i sing it for you,
When mom said you had left us,
I kept in all my tears,
All the grow ups called me brave,
But what they didn't know is I was just rejecting this thought in every way,
My sunshine was taken away,
On that gloomy day,
When you passed away.
