"Seriously? Oh my gosh! Nance, this is great! I'm jealous." I heard squeals echoing from down the hallway. My alarm clock read 8:24. For a Saturday, anytime before 12 o'clock was considered bedtime for my lazy ass. I rolled over and trudged myself to the bedroom door. As I was about to open it, I heard a voice again. This time, it wasn't Drew. I figured she was on the phone with Nancy probably gossiping about our little lunch date. I pressed my ear to the door, desperate for information. "And the way he said goodbye... He's such a gentleman. How do you refrain from sleeping in the same bed with him every night? I mean, my God. He's just right there!" I felt myself smile as I continued to eavesdrop for insight. "I told you, it's not like that between us. He's never once made a move on me and vise versa. He's like a brother to me." Ouch, friend-zoned. "The whole time we were together, my face was in pain from my permanent smile. I could feel myself floating. I've never felt anything like it." "Nancy, you know what this sounds like, right?" There was a long pause. "I think you're in love." "You're insa-" "And you'd better claim him before someone else does. The man needs taken off the market before his expiration date." "Think about it. He's THE Jimmy Fallon. I'm just a Nancy. He's out of my league." I grabbed my chest and let my head rest on the door. "Well anyway, I better get going before he wakes up. I just wanted to catch you up on how things went." "Oh, trust me. I'm sure I'll hear all about it as soon as he crawls out of bed. I'll see you later, Nancy. Bye!" I listened to the door close as I tip-toed to my window and watched the angel strut down the sidewalk. I could feel my heart start beating harder and there was a tap at my door. I jumped and then froze as it flung open.

"I know you've been listening this whole time, squeaky." The floorboard creaked as she walked towards me. "Why don't you ask her out already? You know how she feels about you now. She has no idea how you feel about her though." I ran my hand through my hair and looked at Drew's feet. "Nice socks." She looked down then back up to me. "Don't go changing the subject, Fallon. Ask her out." "Hey, I have a say in this too, don't I? What if I don't want to be tied down in a relationship right now, huh?" I felt my face burn and I tried to hide the lie. I wanted to be with Nancy more than either of them knew. But I had to play my cards right to avoid looking desperate. She had to want me more than I noticeably wanted her. "Ha! That's the funniest thing I've heard all day. You and me both know how much you like her." Okay, that plan's a bust. "Why are you both up so early? It's so early." I yawned in her face and she recoiled. "First off, ever heard of toothpaste buddy?" I blew my breath onto my hand and inhaled, walking to the bathroom and putting my toothbrush to use. "And secondly, Nancy came over to talk about the movie. We start next week. You and I should probably take some time this weekend to go through and memorize our lines." "Shit. I haven't even read the script all the way through completely." "Yeah, you better get on that." She walked out of my room and into the kitchen where I followed her.

"So, how should I do it?" Her eyebrows showed confusion. "Ask her out, I mean. What does she like? I want it to be perfect." "Ohh, look who grew a pair! Nancy is pretty laid back. Don't do anything to extravagant. I mean, she's still a girl and we like special treatment. She isn't a big fan of attention either so don't do anything too extremely public. She doesn't want to be featured on the cover of every tabloid." "Okay, fair enough. I've got a few ideas. What is her favorite thing to do?" "She really loves walking." "I like walking too but I'm asking what does she like to do most?" "Nancy likes to walk. That's sort of her thing. Her favorite place is on the beach in her hometown in Marin County. It's like a stress relief for her." "How far away is that from here?" "About 6 hours, why?" "That's how I'm going to do it. This weekend, we are going for a little drive." "Yes! Road trip!" "Not we." I pointed my finger between myself and Drew. "Me and Nancy." She slapped my arm. "I'm excited for you, Jimmy."
