A/N: Just before you begin reading, note the narrator of this novel is a seventeen year old boy who attends the high school mentioned in the story. His name is Austin Daniels.
Enjoy!
They say the town was constructed on a graveyard, that the bones of our ancestors lay under the pavement of the paths that we walk everyday. Pedofolic men walk the streets at night in hope of catching a sweet, innocent girl to arouse and break her pure virtue. Deaths in the city occur every few months or so and the media publicises only their perspective of the story, regardless of the true details. Innocent people become ones to blame, and those who are guilty get off free.
Novisland -a very strange town. And it is exactly that. Novis literally means strange in Latin. I am sure that whoever discovered the town named it Novisland for a reason, and I am sure that they found some of the things that I did when exploring deep into the dark shadows of the land, some of the things that nobody would ever expect unless they truly knew of the things that happen in the odd place we like to call home.
"In every school, there are cliques; the populars, the nerds, the musos, class clowns, jocks, the list goes on. But at David-Christopher Walken's High School (or as we like to say, D.C Walkens), there is one very odd group known as 'The Finks'. They are all sorts of weird. Tyler - he's like the leader of it all. He has the contacts, lures the innocent ones in and keeps the wanna-bes out. His little side-girl with the red hair is Rosemary. That's not her real name, though. She just goes by that because her actual name is Bertha and she hates it! I don't blame her, it's not a very attractive name. Alice and Zac are the rock 'n' roll power couple of the town and, while they are pretty cute together, they are heavily involved in the sketchy business that goes down in that group.
"The bitch group of the school is only made of three people; Lily, Amber, and Brooklyn. All I can say is, be glad there are only three. The leader of that little group is Lily. Oh, the irony of giving such a sweet name to such a sour person! Good job to her parents. Amber is like Lily's secondhand woman. She gets all of the telling-offs if something isn't done. Brooklyn, however, couldn't be cared for by Lily any less! She's just there because she wanted attention from somebody and Amber convinced Lily that she was 'pretty enough to join'. Definitely a group to avoid.
"My friend group isn't too big but it's definitely not lonely. We all stick together and each have our weird quirks, but we work despite the different personalities that we have. If you enjoy listening to crazy guitar skills and amazing voices, Asher's your guy. He can sing like a mockingbird; beautiful. He's the guy you would obviously partner up with if you wanted an easy 'A' on your music assessment. His best friend, Jack, is also pretty good at music actually. Although, Jack is that one person that every girl wants to be with and every guy wants to be. He's an all-rounder, good at almost everything. There's not a flaw that I can think of. However, I suppose that depends on how well you know a person. Amelia is a sweetheart. We've been best friends since elementary school and she never fails to make me smile. The only problem with her is she is such a sweet and sensitive soul, I'm honestly just waiting for the day that she breaks. I don't want it to happen but I have a feeling it will. And our little ebony-soul is Crimson. She has some weird obsessions with dark themes, it concerns me as to why she really moved to this town. I swear the only reason she moved here was because she heard about the strange events that occur, but we take her for who she is and we love her as much as we can."
The girl with the honey blonde hair blinks twice, her mouth slightly agape. I suppose it's a lot to take in on your first day. A thin, pale aqua fabric is tied loosely around her head, matching the jewellery covering her body. She wears a mustard tank top with denim shorts, chucks, and an oversized jacket is draped around her shoulders. Nothing too over the top, though I do pity her if she gets cold.
"So where are you from, new girl?" She hasn't given up a lot of information while I've been showing her around. I suppose I do talk a lot. "Gotta be somewhere warm, right?"
"Arizona actually," she declares. That would explain the summer mufti. "My mum got a job here so we moved in just a few days ago."
And so the confessions debut. I give a warm smile to her as we part ways and make my way to class.

You think you're used to the craziness that occurs in the 2 minute period the teacher is out of the room, and when it happens just about every period of every day. But the truth is, nothing can prepare for this time in the lesson.
Paper snowballs fly across the room while the nerds push up their glasses and attempt to continue to work ahead of everybody else. Rosemary sits on top of her desk in her cheerleading uniform as Tyler stands between her legs, making out with her. Amber and Brooklyn gossip near the window, as if nobody can hear what they're saying about Lily's saggy ass hanging out of those mini shorts. But of course, Carter takes advantage of the limited clothing and tries to make a move on Lily. As usual, Alice has Zac wrapped around her little finger as she holds him by his shirt and smacks her lips onto his. Asher plays his guitar and sings with a group of girls swooning, standing around him. I swear the little brunette trying to sit on his lap is feeling him up. Violet, I think her name is. I just sit at the back next to Amelia, quietly talking as we wait for the rest of the class to get into trouble just as they do every other day. You'd think we were 7 year olds, not 17 year olds.
Just as Carter is about to take it to the next level with Lily, attempting to get a kiss in there somewhere, the classroom door flies open and in walks Mr Bailey, Principal Stewart, and the girl with the honey blonde hair.
"Students! Tune in please and sit down thank you," Principal Stewart attempts to hush the class but isn't making herself very regarded.
"Tyler, get off her. And Rosemary, get off the desk." Mr Bailey is demanding enough to get the students to take a sit and listen.
"We have a new student joining us today. This is Marley Issa. She just transferred here from Ironwood High School in Arizona," Ms Stewart introduces the small-framed girl as she gives a small, awkward wave to the class. Snark comments are made about the precious soul but as I look around, I ask myself how stupid can I be not to realise it was three abrasive bitches whose opinions mean nothing.
As I stare off into space, the girl with the honey blonde hair (who I now know as Marley) takes the empty seat next to me, greeting me with a warm smile. Her jacket drops down her arm a little as she places her bag on the floor, revealing goosebumps on her skin. You're not in Arizona anymore, sweetheart.
So there's a newbie in town, transferred from the state of a constant, warm breeze and perfectly tanned skin. Does she realise she just moved to a town where several thousand murders and the 9/11 incident occurred? It's not all rainbows and lollipops here, my dear. This is Washington. This is Novisland.
