Florida was so pretty . After I landed I found Sandys brother waiting for me . He greeted me and walked me to the car but I carried my own luggage . Her brother Jack, who is a year older than Sandy is immature , reckless and silly and I would expect anything weird or rude from him . But I got used to him and he is like the annoying brother I never had.
It wasnt really a comfortable ride but the view of the city took me away. The sunny weather made everything look so bright and alive .The blue sky was clear . There were tall thin palm trees in rows along the side walks , and small shops and cafes on the other side of the road . I could smell the beach when we got home .
I climed the few steps infront of the main door . The floor was a bit sandy and the house was made of wood and had the smell of summer , fruites and sea water.
Jack opened the door "We are here " he called and then disappeared . As for me, I was attacked with a tight hug from Sandy "OH MY GOD! I can't believe we will spend summer together " she squealled . When she found I wasn't jumping around as I usually do she spoke up "Don't worry ,mom is still working at the company in NewYork , it's just me and Jack" and with that we started laughing and jumping like crazy people.
I unpacked my clothes while Sandy put a bowl of fruit in the livingroom . "So what are you going to do today ?" she asked . "I would love to have a swim then go to sleep, because I have a long day tomorrow" I answered ,eating some cherries. "you are going to meet your mom towmorrow?"
"Yes, the earlier the better " I answered . Sandy nodded and we both went to the beach.
The next day I woke up and put on a dress and tried to look smart .It took us an hour's nagging to persuade Jack to drive us .
we chatted the whole way and joked ,but as soon as the car came to a stop, I felt my stomach drop . I looked from the window at the simple house infront of us . But then a black woman came out of the house .She took some clothes from the washing line then went back inside .
"Are you sure this is the address I gave you?" I asked . "yes" he asnwered . It couldn't be wrong . There weren't many houses around . It was a quiet neighbourhood . I decided to go and ask the lady if this was in fact 10 summer street .
I got out of the car and went up to the main door and knocked . I didn't wait long before she opened the door . "may I help you ?" she asked with a smile .
"Um, Hi .. Is- Do you know where Mrs.Swaviski's house is?" I asked . "This is the house .Who are you ?" she asked . "A relative. " I answered . "and I need to see her" .
She opened the door and invited me in . "I don't think you are a relative . Mrs.Jane hardly ever got a visitor . so who are you exactly?" the woman asked pouring me a glass of juice .
"How do you know her ?" I asked . "Answer mw first " she demanded . I sighed and answered nervously "Her daughter . I'm her daughter" .
She studied me for a second. "Bella?" she whispered to hersef ,but I heard it . "Wait ,you know me?" I asked confused, taking a sip of my orange juice. "Well I am an old friend of your mother and now I take care of her" she answered with a sympathatic smile .
"why?" I asked , but was cut off by the sound of yelling and stuff hitting the floor . The woman ran to a room . I didn't know what to do exactly, but my feet slowly followed her .
She was standing near a blond woman in a white dress acting strangly as if she was scared . "Jane . Jane listen to me " The black woman spoke clearly ,trying to catch the blond woman's attention. "You are home and I am your friend . Dont worry you are okay " she comforted her .She kept talking slowly and clearly repearting her words until the other woman surrendered and sat on her bed quietly .
"water" she said . "w-water i...water i want" she repeated . "ok"The black woman answered and went out , pushing me gentaly to go out with her.
In the kitchen was my chance to ask her . "who was that woman?" . She stopped for a second and looked at me with a sympathetic smile "your mom" she said .
