QUEN’S POV
I could hear my wife screaming but I didn’t know why. I couldn’t remember much but when I opened my eyes I saw Bianca and Kent holding my wife who was hysterical. She was wearing a hospital gown; why was she wearing a hospital gown?
Gia looked to me and when our eyes met she screamed for a nurse. I wanted to know what the hell was going on. I couldn’t talk but I could feel a tube in my mouth. I brought my hand to it just as a nurse entered the room. She looked to me as Gia cried that I was awake.
“I’ll call his doctor. Please wait outside.” she tells my family.
I watch as Bianca and Kent pull Gia outside. A few minutes later three people enter my room; two more nurses and my doctor. I still wanted to know why I was in the hospital.
It takes about fifteen minutes for the four of them to remove the tube from my mouth. The doctor asks me if I can talk and after coughing a bit I ask what happened. The middle aged man informed me that I, along with my wife, had been shot. My lung was punctured and I was in a short coma until just now.
It took a minute for his words to soak in. This had to be some crazy ass dream!
“I’ll let your family come back in for a little while. We’ll run some tests on you and if everything comes back okay we can release as early as tomorrow morning. You’re one lucky fella Mr. Fairchild.”
My doctor motions for the nurses to leave and he follows them out. I feel some slight pain as I try and sit up in my bed. Gia enters and rushes to my bed when she sees me trying to move.
“Don’t try and move baby. You just woke up.” she whispers to me as she grabs my arm to stop my movement.
“How… long… was I…out?” I ask through a short gasp in breath before collapsing on my back.
“A little over twelve hours. My doctor told me we were brought in last night shortly after nine.”
“That was…while we…were at…dinner.” I swallow the dry lump in my throat. “Do you…remember anything?”
Gia blows out a breath. “I just remember Paula confronted us…”
“Paula? Michael’s wife?!” I grunt. I shook my head as I remembered that.
“Yeah, she told you her name was Julia when she obtained a job at your company. I think she shot us.”
“Why…would she do that?” I cough a bit.
“About a month before I quit my job Paula came to see me. She told me she blamed me for Michael getting arrested and her losing her baby so she was going to stop at nothing to ruin my life.”
This made no sense to me but I was going to let the police handle this. All that I cared about was that I was okay and my wife was okay. Nothing else mattered. Gia then grabs my hand causing me to look at her.
